We stayed in one of the 'garden' rooms. The decor was a bit tired and the bathroom needed replacing, but the room was spacious enough although it was very dark.
This in itself would not have led me to leave a one star review, it was the rudeness that we encountered that meant we could not relax in the time we spent here (thankfully only two nights). So here's a salutary tale, told so others may avoid a similar experience to ours.
On arrival I had a wander, looking for the garden. I wandered through the car park (the 'garden' rooms look out over said car park), came to an open gate wandered through and found a pool and garden space. Great. Sat down on lounger, read book for a bit, then attempted to return, but the gate was now locked. A member of staff came along and punched in the code and I thanked her and went through. Ten minutes later the receptionist (who had, incidentally, given us no information, on arrival) turns up and berated me for 'using' the pool. It turns out that the pool and garden are attached to a hotel at the back (same chain as this one). I explained that it was a mistake but she was exceedingly rude and threatened to have us thrown out of the hotel. Having travelled regularly, I can honestly say that I have never been spoken to in such a way that was designed to humiliate. A genuine error (based on misinformation- there is no 'garden'-just a few shrubs next to a car park- I foolishly assumed the garden I had found was the advertised garden) was dealt with as a serious crime, worthy of expulsion from the accommodation.
It's interesting to read other reviewers comments about the lack of parking for this hotel, since our room looked out over a great big car park. How come? You've probably guessed it- this car park also belongs to the hotel (same chain, remember) at the back. Which, kind of, makes my error understandable; but leads me to believe that this chain of hotels has little time for those of us who stay in this two-star hotel and a great effort is made to please those who stay in the three-star at the back.
