I do not usually stay at B&Bs but the hotel options in Montpellier, especially those in the new section of town, seemed really sterile and modern and not representative of Montpellier. I am really glad I stayed at Alex's place - we got to sample life in the center of this vibrant and historic city in an authentic way. The location is perfect - close to the very heart of the center, which limits the auto traffic, but it's very quiet at night because there are no businesses on the street even though restaurants and shops are very close by, right around the corner. As other reviewers have already described, the building itself is amazing, the rooms beautiful and super clean. Alexandre's breakfasts were fresh lovely baguettes and pain au chocolate from the nearby boulangerie and a big pot of french press coffee, timed to suit our schedule every day. Super! Pescail the cat and Nine the dog were charming but not intrusive, like Alex! We got great recommendations about places to see, advice about how and when to get trains (Alex even looked up the train schedules for us), and restaurant recommendations and reservations. Alex basically made himself on call, always available by phone for quick advice, without being pushy. He also went way beyond the call of duty, even doing our laundry! This was a memorable experience and definitely much more interesting than if we had stayed in a more generic type of hotel, and a good value too. Can't wait to go back!

This is a great, comfortable place in the heart of the city. Alexandre will meet you and show you where to park. Very convenient. Located in a very old building but very modern and comfortable. Highly recommend it. Very close to good restaurants.

I recently visited Montpellier on business and was delighted to discover Alexander’s charming B&B: Chambres d’Hautres. And I couldn't have been happier!

This B&B is a delight for the senses and is by far the most visually stunning place I have ever stayed in. Alexander, who is the most hospitable of hosts, has filled his house with beloved objetsd’art, plants and pictures of all kinds, which all combine to create a whimsical fantasy world. The building dates back to the 14th century and has beautiful stone floors, ornate ceilings and light streaming in from its floor to ceiling windows overlooking the quiet cobblestoned streets of Montpellier.

A special mention needs to be made of the incredible bathroom with its deep luxurious bath, wonderful soap and bath towels provided by Alexander.

The breakfast of freshly made coffee, juice, yogurt, fresh fruit and viennoiseries was a delightful surprise and nice change the from toast and cereal one gets in most B&Bs around the continent. The bed was large and comfortable with crisp white cotton sheets. I could not have asked for more and the experience made my too-brief visit to Montpellier well worth the time! Highly recommended!

We stayed in “La Suite du Merle Blanc” (with two kids who loved the roomlet up the steps. The flat was the most beatiful holiday flat I've ever been in. Decor, style, facilities, comfort, practicality, cleanliness, climate and sound level were all just perfect.

This flat is hidden in a house in a small & quiet side road which is in the centre of Montpellier. Just a one minute walk is the market which was a fantastic place to get everything for a great fresh breakfast. Still, Alexandre had left quite a few basics in the flat for us like coffee, milk, yoghurt, jams etc.

One of the best things about this nicer-than-home away from home was that Alexandre took amazing detailed care of us: he took lots of time to go through all of the things we may enjoy doing, seeing & eating in Montpellier and due to this we had a marvellous time, better than any stay in Montpellier before.

The only negative thing about our stay was that we had to leave the flat at the end...

On a practical note: Alexandre met us at the fountain on Rue Foch (very easy to find - the fountain is where Google Maps drops the arrow when you enter 'Montpellier, France') which is a grand place to start any trip to Montpellier. He then escorted us into safe parking and helped us with our bags to the flat where he gave us an attentive intro and answered al of our questions, gave us maps and lots of tips.

We had a great time at this establishment. Met by the host and taken personally to the premises. Very knowledgable about the area and its amenities. Very clean and all you need for a peacefull stay away from the rat race. Location is good. very quiet and restfull. A car is a plus in this region to allow you to explore the French country side and coastal areas. Safe, secure car parking is available. All in all a placve to recomend and will satisfy singles and couples. We have nothing at all negative to comment upon. We will without doubt return again

Alex is special. We arrived in Montpellier and he met us at the fountain next to the Suite du Merle Blanc; helped us to park underground in a locked garage; carried some of our luggage to the apartment, and reserved us a table at Chez Borius. The apartment is well appointed, comfortable and love his decor. The bathroom is huge compared to the normal European size. Loved all of the neat shops and outside dining areas that were within 3 blocks of the apartment. Highly recommend this apartment to everyone!!

Room Tip: Make sure you ask Alex how to run the counter top cooking area - it has safety lock for children; al...

Alex is special.
We arrived by our mistake to Montpellier a day early. Nevertheless Alex met us at the station, found as good alternative accommodation (see hotel review), reserved us a table at La Morue ( see restaurant review) and the following day he met us to help us move to impasse du merle blanc 3. The apartment is well appointed and comfortable. Alex cleaned it and changed the linen twice weekly. He also gave us good general information about Montpellier and its surrounds, about events and markets. We left by early train for Spain. Alex helped us with luggage and a taxi - for most the walk would have been manageable, but not for us.
Frankly, we left with regret, promising ourselves a return and longer stay in the not too distant .future.

Room Tip: The steep and winding staircase is difficult for people with mobility problems.
