We have been well aquainted with Monpellier for many years and have never had a bad meal there. It was no different at the Rajastan. The food is expensive but the flavours are so seductive that you really don't mind. For a cheaper option the fixed-price lunchtime menu is well worthwhile.
The view from the terrace is good if not romantic.

I had the garlic naan, with ghobi aloo and tandoori chicken. The tandoori chicken was succelent and full of flavour, which makes it a good preparation. The restaurant has an outside seating area around the fountain, which is a nice environment for lunch/dinner. try the specialy in-house tea too, very refreshing!

Tonight we where the only ones there and we where taken such great care of. The staff was wonderfully friendly and quickly became our friend. He helped us with all our choises, and the food was great. Traditional indian cuisine.

The lovely alfresco setting behind the church seduced us into taking a table but this turned out to be easily the worst Indian meal I have ever had.

The poppadums were burnt and chewy (that's right 'chewy'!) and the starters - onion bhaji and vegetable samosas - tasted 'old', like they'd been reheated from lunch time. They were also served on a bed of limp lettuce with an odd and unappealing dusting of raw spice.

The main aubergine dish was like baby food: I could have eaten it with a straw. The other main mixed vegetable dish was more appetising but failed to deliver on taste due to poor spicing.

At least the service was apologetic..

The warning signs were there after three failed attempts to cook a decent poppadum - an absolutely basic skill in the Indian kitchen. If you like Indian food look elsewhere.
