“Average food, nice room, nothing spectacular”
Reviewed 27 October 2013

We went here because of the good TA reviews but found nothing special about this restaurant. The room is nice and quiet with tables spaced well apart, but too brightly lit. The service was fine but without personality. We both had the Plateau de la Mer which had a small sole in a nice white sauce, a few slices of scallops in a very tasty sauce, and a puff pastry of mixed mushrooms and fish, accompanied by a smooth mash of celeriac, and a vegetable mouse. Good flavours but unfortunately most of the dish was cold, including the sauce on the fish, which should have been poured on hot at the last moment. There were very few choices on the menu and it is apparent from prior reviews that they have been serving the same dishes for a long time, so they should be able to get it right, at least. With one main course and one desert each the bill came to 80 euro, including a bottle of wine. We have enjoyed several much better restaurants in Montpellier for approximately the same price. For example, Le Pastis, Les Vignes, and L'Idee Saveurs are each much better than Les Ban.

“Great restaurant”
Reviewed 26 April 2013

This is a great unpretentious restaurant with fantastic food. The chef proprieteur and his wife have been here for over a decade and prepare food bought daily at the market.
Today we ate some Bonito ( tuna) which was succulent with great taste, not dry which it can be if cooked too much.
This is the second time I have been, but I will return.

“Excellent French Cuisisne”
Reviewed 26 April 2013

We went to this restaurant yesterday for dinner, easy to get there using the local transportation system. I ordered a combination of fish and my husband ordered scallops. Outstanding, these were served over a light sauce that was just heavenly, vegetable mouse and some heavenly creamed potatoes that tasted like celery. Everything was magnificent; absolutely tres delicieux absolument exquis

“What a place”
Reviewed 17 July 2012

If you like rich french cuisine lovingly prepared by the owner this is the place for you, Gourmand starters, Gourmand mains and Gourmand desserts available alongside plain (haha!) old a la carte. We went for the three Gourmands and what a amazing meal we experienced. I cant vouch for the 19 restaurants rated above this place but they must be very very good or very very expensive because for the money we paid I cant see how we could of done any better. Next time we are in Montpellier we will be definately coming back here despite great meals at restaurant at the opera house (rated 101 on the list but it is good if not a little dear especially compared to this gem), two great meals at a great italian in the centre, a top thai restaurant by railway station and two great meals at the lovely posh restaurant opposite L'entrecote off the place de la comedie that I forget the name of now (possibly la diligence rated 10 on the list)....we did eat well over the 12 nights and I cooked a decent meal or two in our self catering appartment. Quick aside is make sure you check out the Zoo especially if you are a family....great place and unbelieveably its FREE. Anyway this place ticks all the boxes for a romantic meal for two if you like varied and exiting food.

“A Great Place”
Reviewed 23 June 2012

The best restaurant we found during out week in Montpellier. Family-run, apparently and the service may only be 4-star, but everything else was superb. No fancy printed menu, just carry the blackboard round to each table. Superb brochettes, and the assiette de desserts was gorgeous.
It should be noted that the Place Carnot tram stop is several hundred yards from this Place Carnot restaurant; beware.
