“Good value, good location”
Reviewed 16 November 2011

Stayed here for a weekend rugby trip with a bunch of guys and found it to be ideal for that kind of weekend - reasonable price (approx €70 euro a night), good location and providing all the basic requirements on a no-frills basis.

That said, an Ibis is an Ibis, and you know what to expect.

Best feature was the central location - right on the Place de la Comedie, which is basically the town centre of Montpellier, and within walking distance of all the bars, restuarants and other amenities. There is a good quality shopping mall right by the front door and the main tramline is also within a five minute walk.

Breakfast is a basic continental buffet (which costs extra). Only disadvantage of the central location is car-parking - there is access to the underground car-park which also serves the shopping mall, but it is not cheap.

Any gripes ? Not many really. The bathroom had a slight damp smell and the towels are thin. Reception staff are ..well..basically French, so not high on customer friendliness (and the night porter was postively on the hostile side when we asked for a late night drink!). But that's France.

Recommended ? Certainly YES for our weekend requirements

We found the rooms to be clean, comfortable and quite large, albeit a little dated in terms of decor. The staff at the reception desk were very helpful, and there was always someone there who spoke reasonable English. The hotel is within walking distance to most of the sights around Montpellier, including nice restaurants and parks. Overall no complaints, we enjoyed our stay there.

I've stayed here a number of times. I really like the location and I love Montpellier.

The hotel is right on the Place de la Comedie, so everything is right there once you step out the door. Rooms are a bit bigger than many IBIS hotels, apart from that it's the usual IBIS standard (which I like).

If you get a room overlooking the Place you may have issues with noise late at night. I get a room at the back and while the view isn't anything special, it is quiet and light.

If you come by car, please note there is no real place to stop and unload your suitcases in front on the hotel. There is a little space, however it's usually got someone parked there. It can also be impossible to get to depending upon the direction you approach from.

As you pass the IBIS (on the left) and descend into the tunnel, you'll see the entrance to the underground public parking lot on your right as the road bends. You have to drive into the underground parking lot where you'll see signs that take you to the IBIS parking level. It's a bit tricky, but if you do this you'll save yourself lots of time driving around.

If you want IBIS Centre Comedie, don't get this IBIS mixed up with the other IBIS which is very close by.

Decent room in a slightly soulless corner of the town centre. Reception staff a mixture, when I enquired whether the hotel was affiliated with any local gyms one of the stranger ladies shouted 'GERM, GERM', and told me that no gym in france offered day passes. Actually i found out that several in Montpellier do.

The Ibis Montpellier has unexpectedly large and comfortable rooms. Besides the bed, there was a sofa, desk, two chairs and table and a large bathroom. Everything was spotlessly clean and the people working at reception were polite and helpful. Having just come on a ten-hour train trip from a week in Spain, I had a hard time switching from Spanish to French, but the young woman who helped me was fluent in both these languages as well as English. The hotel is easy walking distance from the train station and the historical and cultural sites. Although the town was full of revellers, the room was so well sound-proofed that we heard no noise inside or out. The bed was also exceptionally comfortable. I would come back to this hotel, if I had the opportunity.

We stayed here for one night on a short trip around southeastern France. We arrived from the train station pretty tired from pulling our luggage over cobblestones. Our check-in was great. The woman who helped us was very courteous and allowed us to practice our French. The view from our room was excellent; we could see the entire neighborhood. The only downside was that the room was kind of out of date. Our floor was a little musty smelling and the decor seemed pretty 80s to me. It's probably fair though since we got a good price.
