“I have never seen such a small room - not good value for money”
Reviewed 6 February 2013

We have just spent two nights at the Ibis Montpellier Centre....this place has been purpose built to fit people in like sardines. It's not that the place wasn't clean, modern or comfortable..it was just that the rooms had been designed to make the most of the smallest space available. As is the case with many modern hotels heating was also set very high, so it is good that the windows opened up.

I liked:

1. the location; central yet quiet
2. the capacity of the windows to open and let in some cool air
3. that the room was clean and modern

Not so good were:
1. no storage space (we were continually tripping over our suitcases that had to stay in the middle of the room); there was no space to put them
2. the shower/toilet was tiny and the shower wet everywhere when in use
3. the fact we were given breakfast vouchers when we arrived. We believed that breakfast then was part of the deal. Beware. We were then charged for using the vouchers at the end of our stay.

We were charged 100Euro a night plus 9.50 each for breakfast each day. I think it was very expensive for what was offered.

I would recommend staying somewhere else that represents better value for money.

This hotel is located just a few minutes from from Comedie square, shopping area and bars/restaurants. Free internet, good choice of TV channels and small shower room but very clean!! Definitely good value for money!

Room Tip: We had a double room as was quite spacious!

I had to stay here for 5 nights while attending a conference at the Curum Centre. Therefore it was very convenient for that as only a 10 minute walk through the park. The Hotel rooms are small, really small, it is a bit like living in a very small caravan! You cannot open the room door fully as it hits the bed. There is no wardrobe just a very small hanging space. There are no drawers to put clothes away. The bathroom is right in the room and only has a frosted glass screen round which could be really embarrasing if you were sharing the room as you could sit up in bed about a metre from the distinct outline of someone sitting on the toilet! The batroom itself is minute, the shower is like standing in a wardrobe having a shower, do remember to use the electric blind as otherwise you give the street outside a good display through the not so frosted glass window! The room was hot and the air conditioning did not work.
What was good about the room? well the bed was comfortable. I would NOT recommend 2 sharing a room there. The receptionist lad was very good, however on checking in I asked if breakfast was included and he said yes. I was given plastic card vouchers for each days breakfast however when I checked out they said I owed them for breakfast! a small argument ensued but there was not much I could do so I have to pay up 9.50 euro per day for breakfasts which I thought were included, a real con trick!! There are no English spaeking TV channels not even News!
The breakfast area is also out of Gullivers travels with no room. The restaurant was not bad and not expensive if you need to eat in it is OK and reasonably priced but it is not a meal for pleasure it is just food! All this for just over 100 euro a night, way to expensive! Several of my colleagues who were at the same conference also stayed here and all said much the same as above especially about the size of the rooms. I would not stay here again.

Room Tip: Choose another Hotel unless you are 1 metre tall. Rooms at the back are better as the ones at the fr...

Washroom is tiny, no shower door hence water all over floor; toilet has glass division therefore one sees silhouette of person doing his or her thing without soundproofing; no closet to speak of; no room for luggage. Otherwise clean and bed is confortable.

Location: A five minute walk (if that) from the Comedie Center area of Montpellier which is brilliant for shopping, cafes/restaurants and entertainment. Ten minute walk from the airport shuttle bus stop and seconds from the tram stop. The hotel is located next to a one-way street but this was not busy and traffic noise was not a problem.

Service/cleanliness/rooms: The staff there were excellent, firstly by speaking good English (my French is non-existent) upon check-in. They were pleasant and helpful throughout our stay and were happy to provide ice buckets and wine glasses for our own wine to drink in the room.

The rooms were basic and wardrobe space was limited, but the room itself was very clean and tidy. The bathroom wasn't the biggest but you won't be spending much time in there so not really a problem.

The hotel has its own licensed cafe/restaurant with outside seating area.

Overall the only negative I can think of is the size of the bathrooms and wardrobe space, although the more expensive rooms might be bigger. The hotel is excellent value for money and would definitely stay there again if I went to Montpellier again.
