“Brilliant hotel , immaculate rooms , accommodating ,professional and friendly staff.”
Reviewed 27 August 2013 via mobile

We have booked this hotel at the last minute only because we had to escape a terrible place we were staying at a few miles away ( Helios in Carnon plage ) .
At a drop of a hat , the staff booked us ( 2 adults and 2 kids ) into 2 communicating rooms . The girls were brilliant on the phone and did their best when we got there to get our rooms ready a little earlier .
The rooms were spotless , scented and comfortable . It was definitely a 4 star hotel !!!
Breakfast was included in our package for a mere € 9 per room per day and that was excellent value for money : the buffet was filled with sweet pastries , breads , cakes , muffins , yogurts , meats , fruits , eggs , pancakes , juices .. You name it , it was there !! There was also a proper coffee machine delivering espressos and cappuccinos at people's request . Perfect way to start a day !
Everyone has been attentive from the girls at reception to the breakfast and bar staff , not to forget the cleaners.

It was a brilliant stay ... The only minor points are : swimming pool a little small and the price of the parking !!! But to be quite honest that didn't really spoil our stay , we loved the place . Location was average ( although we discovered some amazing restaurants around : les jardins de Marrakech and Trinque fougasse a wine bar and restaurant ) but a 15 minute ride on the tram .
Thoroughly recommended !!!

We stayed in the courtyard for 2 nights. The rooms are excellent, and even if the hotel is not next to the historic city center, just in front there are several tram stops which will take you there in 10 minutes.

What we did not like, was that the hotel staff reacted very cold and uninterested on our remark we had received a room with 2 beds instead of 1 double bed (we did not book with the hotel directly but through booking.com). It seems this is possible - i can accept that, but the indifference with which we were treated was amazing.

Many of the reception staff do not speak a single word of English.

But what we especially disliked, is that a 200 EUR deposit was taken from our account. Not blocked on our VISA, but really taken out of the account. We had to wait for 6 days to get the money back. While maybe this has to do with the bank as well, I think you should be informed by hotel staff that they are taking a deposit.

Our family stayed at the Courtyard Montpellier in July 2013 we had two adjacent rooms for the four of us.

Overall this hotel is very nice – a notch above typical North American Courtyards.

A few comments:

PROS
- The hotel seemed brand new and everything was spotless - the rooms, lobby, grounds & pool area, even the underground parking garage and its glossy floor (more below).
- Good size rooms in typical Marriott layout – ours (like most) had only a thin balcony that you can stand on, but it looked like some of the top floor suites had bigger terraces so inquire.
- Outdoor pool and deck were pleasant - average size pool on the quiet side of the hotel near some sort of canal
- The hotel location is a bit outside of central Montpellier. We had a car since we wanted to daytrip in the region. One evening we decided to walk to Place de la Comedie, which took about a half hour.
- The hotel is right next to what’s apparently the ‘new city hall’, and they share a common square with some modern, generic restaurants and cafes around the square. We have plenty of these at home so did not try them – preferred dining in the older part of Montpellier.
- Onsite parking was convenient and essential if you have a car, as there’s no street parking close by. We chose the underground Marriott reserved parking but the hotel guide mentioned access to '2500 free public parking’ spots, so inquire

CONS
- Nothing major – a minor annoyance was having to use electronic key cards everywhere - especially when getting in/out of the parking garage which has so many screening points you’d think it contains a bank vault.

Montpellier itself is very nice, lively city with plenty to see. But if you’re looking for daytrip ideas around the Montpellier area – we really enjoyed the mountain caves at La Grotte des Desmoiselles north of the city. Also enjoyed Sete on the Med coast, with its canals. There are also plenty of nice sandy beaches within 20 mins of Montpellier – we tried the beaches at Grand Travers and Grande Motte, which were excellent by some beautiful sand dunes. Parking was fairly easy to find, but bring umbrella and sunscreen as you won’t find many trees by these beaches.

Stayed here in May on business. A nice quiet hotel, with all you need for a short stay. The staff were very friendly, and very much enjoyed the Restaurant for Dinner and Breakfast. Some nice walks around the hotel, and the hotel reception had a little shop for a few basic bits. Mini bar helpful, but as usual, expensive. Recommended

This hotel was reasonably priced and a great find when we were looking for a place to stay on our drive to the south. Found this at 2 am and they still had a room... Luckily. Very clean rooms and nice service. Take the rate with breakfast for a good deal

Stayed en famille 3 nights in two rooms. New, modern hotel that is very well placed for the tramway into the centre, making it a good base. We had no problems finding the hotel by car, since we used our GPS to Rue du Chelia, notwithstanding the lack of reference to this new hotel Hotel staff courteous and friendly, though as a regular Marriott user this hotel has a way to go before the Marriott culture is in place....

** Warning for Gold Card holders, no breakfast included in the room price here **

Restaurant is a typical hotel restaurant - excellent, copious breakfast options; dinner is good without being outstanding (the Michelin endorsement is surprising given restaurants we visited that were not endorsed) and the waiters are friendly.

An enjoyable stay overall - only downside was the room we had overlloked the front traffic and because the french window on to the balcony was not 100% well fitted, the sound insulation was poor....we could tell as our children next door had not such problem. The problem was reported, though it was not fixed while we were there and no update was given.

Recommended place to stay as I am sure the niggling issues

Definitely a nice hotel. Comfortable, clean, and a very friendly staff. Was visiting town for work and this hotel is perfectly suitable. However in a city where it can be difficult to get a taxi, this hotel was a bit too far from the city center than I had hoped. Next time I will learn the train system better.

The pool here is also a major plus, but like other pools, make sure to get there early as people tend to get the good chairs.
