After years of putting up with grotty Novotels and overpriced "luxury" hotels for road trips through France, it's a pleasure to be able to write about a hotel that finally does a good job of what it sets out to do. It's a Marriott Courtyard, the brand says we're not cheap, neither are we luxurious, but we do the job well, especially for travellers. This Montpellier location exceeds expectations if you've ever stayed in a USA property. It's modern, well-appointed, has a good pool and exercise facility, with a smart reception, bar and restaurant area. A huge plus is the very secure underground car park, and close proximity to the main motorway heading to Barcelona. Bedrooms are light, modern and clean, as are the bathrooms. We stayed in a two-room suite which is perfect for families with the sofa bed and extra toilet. It was a Sunday night so restaurant choice was limited to the room service menu, but since that included burgers, pasta and steak we did not feel limited.
As usual, a hotel lives and dies on the quality of its service and we had no disappointments on that count, especially in the bar and restaurant where our server was a delight.
As I said at the beginning, a perfect road trip hotel and we'll be back.More
