“Very impressive”
Reviewed 8 August 2014

It is very impressive even when you see the photos of Cathedrale St-Pierre, imagine the feeling to stand before its entrance. Very close to the city center, you should definitely visit it. Very useful during a rainy day. Nowadays, the Faculty of Medicine is situated within this Cathedrale (you can see the signs).

“Nice Church”
Reviewed 3 August 2014

We went for a visit in May and there was something on with the children so we had to wait outside for it to finish. They let us in and it was worth the wait. What a lovely church and seeing all the families there celebrating was very special.

“Cathedral of St Pierre”
Reviewed 9 July 2014

I really came here to rest my tired feet and for some time away from the sun, after a long walk around the city. I was pleasantly surprised by this well maintained building.

It is the seat of the archbishops of Montpellier and whilst not as ornate as some other great cathedrals around France it has a beautifully simple Medieval exterior and a massive interior with some lovely chapels, a beautiful vaulted nave and a gorgeously ornate great organ.

The cloister is now a part of the University of Montpellier's Faculty of Medicine.

Listen to the bells chime the hours -- they are easy on the ears!

“Entrance is great”

A much rebuilt cathedral with loud bells and a fabulous witches-hat portico! Cool on a hot day, too.

“A magnificent cathedral”
Reviewed 29 June 2014

The cathedral, tucked out of the way in the historic city center, is distinguished by its twin towers rising above the surrounding buildings. It has a massive porch supported by two huge columns topped with Gothic towers, but the entrance is by a small door down the side of the building and where you can still see the marks of the shots fired by Royalist troops in 1815. Inside is a single nave, with lovely side chapels, a magnificent organ and beautiful stained glass windows. We were fortunate enough to visit at a time when the organ was being played. Attached to the cathedral is a splendid building once a monastery, now the University's Faculty of Medicine. Like most churches in France, it is closed from 1230 to 1400 and well worth a visit.
