“Confirmed! It is an absolute jewel”
Reviewed 5 October 2013

We tried it last summer for dinner in one of our visits to Montpellier on business. We found it outstanding: Fresh, Innovative, tasty, beautiful food. We went back to Montpelier and were disappointed that our schedule did not allow for dinner. So we tried lunch: Not only was as delicious as dinner but great value @ Euro18.00 including wine and dessert. I still believe that dinner is the best time to enjoy the fabulous food after a stroll around this very nice city. A must.

“Small restaurant with an intimate and pleasant atmosphere”
Reviewed 7 September 2013 via mobile

Great food. Perfect menu for a couple. We ordered a table after the hotel receptionist advised us to come here. We walked around the city to try and find a better restaurant acording to tripadvisor.. After 30 minutes we gave up... And that was the best thing becouse we would have missed this small gem of a restaurant.

“Fresh and fantastic”
Reviewed 30 June 2013

Spotted this restaurant whilst looking for "Le Cyrilou". The area is rather on the grotty side, but just a couple of blocks down from Place de la Comédie. This probably is why it is such excellent value. It is pristine in appeareance and ditto for the interior. It seats about 25 max I'd think, so best to book. The offer is 2 courses for 26 euros or 3 for 32. The choice is limited, but everything we tried was just divine. We went there 2 nights in a week and between us sampled most of the menu. The fresh asparagus entree was outstanding, as was the sauteed foie gras and the salmon roulé. We stuck to fish for the second course, and there was a choice of "maigre" - sea bass or rouget. Both were wonderful, but the bass on its bed of leeks done in a Noilly Prat sauce was sensational. I'd go back to Montpellier just to eat that!
I'm not a dessert person, but my friends who had the all chocolate dessert declared it heavenly.
In addition we were served olives as a starter, then another selection of 3 little starters, which were gorgeous.
With the coffee appeared another little selection of delicious mignardises.
The waitress is efficient, friendly and speaks some English.
All in all, this place gave us 2 very memorable meals - many thanks to them!
I imagine the menu changes with the produce available, and I look forward to another visit later in the year.

“Excellent, excellent french cuisine!”
Reviewed 29 May 2013

This restaurant is close to the Place de la Comédie but on the more rundown, non-pedestrian side. But don't be put off by the street address; this is a little hidden gem.
We had a set menu at 32 euros : starter, main and dessert. There were only 3 choices for each course, but I took that as a good sign and it was. Excellent quality and presentation of the food. (I chose the asparagus, then fish and lemon pastry.)
Too bad there were so few diners there that Thursday evening. I have read other reviews criticizing service as slow. The chef was alone in the kitchen and one waitress served so, yes perhaps, if the restaurant is nearly full (it seats about 20 guests), I can understand there may be some delay.
However, we were extremely happy with our meal. It rated second only to our favorite Michelin starred restaurant experience that we had that week and at a lower price. In sum, it was excellent value for money : we had meals on our week’s trip to the south of France that cost more and were not nearly as good. Thank you to the receptionist, Thérèse, at our hotel who gave us the address. We will definitely return if we visit Montpellier again and hope to repeat the experience.

“Very intimate and pleasurable experience”
Reviewed 29 May 2013

We set out to find another restaurant that had great reviews in TripAdvisor but they were shut so we turned around and said, "that'll do".
We were not dissapointed.
Service was fast, freindly (and pretty). We got a little bowl of olives (free) to kick off while we waited then a little plate with tasters (free) then a lovely meal and again a couple of little free tasties before finishing.
My foie gras with blackberry sauce and lychees was astoundingly good, and I think possibly original, Halsdorf the owner and chef is pretty good at his craft.
We were enchanted by the depth of attention to detail they gave and will go back.
