“The hotel for an independent traveler”
Reviewed 5 March 2012

We loved our stay at the Appart' City Nîmes: it felt like home away from home. This may not refer to the ordinary use ot he idiom, because for us it meant the independency and freedom that you get staying in an appartment hotel without all the normal hotel routines and procedures. You get to be your own slave, but you also get to be your own master.

The rooms come with a kitchen, so you will be able to prepare your meals, if willing. On a long trip eating at a restaurant always gets a little boring (and expensive) after a while, so a kitchen in the room is a huge pro. The rooms at the Appart'City Nîmes are also ultra modern and clean, which is definitely not the case with all the hotels in France.

The hotel is located about a 15 min walk from the train station and situated next to three supermarkets - not too far from the centre ville with its sights and ideal for doing some grocery shopping for your snacks and meals or for to take home. The value for money was the best during our two week´s stay in France and if we ever go back to Nîmes again, this will be our first option to stay at.

Appart City Hotels to me are an Enigma. They try to be all things to all people and in so doing fail to satisfy wholly in any one area. Lets start by saying that they are NOT bad. They represent excellent value for money and give you flexibility in many areas that others do not. It does not have the feel of a hotel, more that of an apartment block. The rooms are fairly small with (in this case) a sofa bed, not the most wonderful or comfortable sleeping arrangement. However the upside is it gives flexibility in the day time for seating. The bathrooms always seem spacious with a good shower. The real plus is the kitchenette. A failrly small area with kettle (or in some cases the less flexible option of a coffee maker), refrigerator, cooking hob, microwave and associated crockery. All ideal if looking to self cater. The receptionists are excellent. Very helpful and speak good english. Reception has limited opening hours and not at all on Sundays. As a result it is MOST IMPORTANT that guests know that if they arrive after 19:00 or on a Sunday that they must obtain a code from the main AppartCity booking line both for the entry code to the property and also to the safe to get their Keys. None of the advance information from expedia or Booking.com gives warning of this fact. So in summary if you want flexibility of accomodation at a good price and are prepared to lose some of the creature comforts of a normal hotel then this could be for you. If not...then look to one of the major hotel chains.

Room Tip: It is MOST IMPORTANT that guests know that if they arrive after 19:00 or on a Sunday that they must...

We are a couple in our late thirties and we were disapointed with this hotel. It isn't a bad hotel. But if you are on vacation with your loved one and you are looking for a place to stay that is inexpensive, we don't recommend it. Yes it is inexpensive, but it is also had a "dorm" feel to it. Not very romantic or inspiring. Ok for a one night stay but no more. It was very clean however.

We were not that impressed with Nîmes either. There isn't too much to see in the city. We decided to stay in Nîmes because it is close to many cities villages we wanted to visit. We only had a day and a half in Nîmes. One day would've been enough.

The Appart´city Nimes was listed as being a non smoking hotel which was the most important reason why we booked our four night stay. We arrived on a Sunday . There is no reception on Sunday so you have to obtain an entry code to the hotel and collect your room key from a safety deposit box.The room had a foul stench of smoke like a discotheque the morning after, the sofa bed had a cigarette burn .We are non smokers so it was extremely nauseating. There was no one to complain to until Monday morning. The carpet was dirty and the sofa bed extremely hard to sleep on. The room is on the small side as you need to fold away the sofa bed to have enough space to be able to work at the desk. There is a small kitchen area with cooker, fridge and dishwasher which is useful. The bathroom is quite spacious. There was a warning that we had to clean our room prior to departure or face a 26 euro bill (36 euros for the larger rooms). The rooms are not cleaned and the towels are not changed until, I was told, six days have passed so you have to use damp towels ,buy soap, make your bed etc..and take your rubbish down to the dustbins. The receptionist, Sandra was very nice and moved us to a cleaner room without fuss. It was explained that the room is ´´your home´´ so you are free to smoke. There are long terms residents at the hotel . One left their door open and a childs scooter outside the door. Their door being left open allowed their cooking smells to permeate horribly around the hallway. There was a stench of food and stale smoke in the hallway the following morning.Breakfast at 9 euros per person was expensive and was about the same quality and choice as breakfast in the Etap hotels which is half the price.Private parking is 6 euros/day but you can park outside at your risk and subject to space.Internet (not wireless) is 2 euros/day.Half the rooms face a noisy main road, the rest face residential flats and are quieter. I think it is a mistake of the hotel to allow smoking in all rooms .It reminded me of a bedsit.

Room Tip: Ask for a room away from the road.
