What a surprise this hotel was. I was expecting an average hotel but what we got was a little gem! Really nice and helpful staff, brilliant location and beautiful setting. Our room was extremely well equipped. We loved and would defiantly come back again.

We had 2 excellent days in Carcassonne (amazing) followed by 2 in this fantastic hotel on the side of the Canal de la Robine in Narbonne. You really must see Carcassonne but that is another story. Narbonne is a really great place and you will easily find things to do in the city itself and on the tow paths of the ancient and beautiful Canal. But this hotel is soo different! Everything you have read about this place (which is positive) is true and any negatives can only have come from people who are confused. Get on the next Ryanair flight to Carcassonne (ok the runway isn't really long enough so the pilot will slam the plane into the runway in the first foot of it's length or he won't have the distance to stop at the other end) but we found the experience just added to this really great spur of the moment 4 days away in France.

The first thing you notice when you arrive at the Clarion Suites-Ile de Gua, is how quiet and peaceful the area is. The hotel staff was very helpful and assured us we were not too late for dinner. When we entered our room, what a delightful surprise, it was very large, with a jacuzzi, a wonderful work area, and a large bench for your suitcase. The decor was bright but warm with light coloured walls and hardwood floors and cupboards in a warm reddish-brown. Rather than curtains, there are wooden blinds on the windows in the same colour tone as the floors. There was even a small kitchenette. Through sliding glass doors is a balcony, overlooking the garden, canal and old stone mill housing the restaurant. It is a beautiful view and so quiet. The balcony has a table and chairs and it would have been a wonderful place to enjoy a pre-dinner aperitif had we been staying longer. Although the hotel is a bit removed from the hustle and bustle of the city centre, it was only about 5 minutes to the main street. This is a very modern hotel so you don't have to worry about elevators and WiFi. Everything you need is there.

Room Tip: I don't believe there is a bad room in the hotel.

This is an excellent hotel and the best value we had in France. The rooms are big with excellent facilities. They have a nice view of the canal Du Midi. Our room had a jacuzzi. It is in a quiet suburb and about 15 minutes walk along the canal to town. We found the restaurant very good and the staff excellent.

After arriving from Aus and catching the TGV to Narbonne, arriving late in the evening, this hotel was perfect. We had a quick dinner at the delightful restaurant overlooking the Canal de Robine, dinner was a simple duck liver salad and a glass of local red and off to bed, lulled to sleep by the trickling of the canal through the wooden shutters.
Staff were very helpful and the decor in our room was beautifully simple, calming (lots of wood and the feeling of stone in keeping with the surrounding stone buildings and canal). I was only sad there wasn't time to use the spa! A good all rounder...

Wonderful peaceful location about 15 mins walk from town centre. Hotel offers large rooms with jacuzzi and many have balconies overlooking the canal. The staff were very friendly and helpful and Valerie the owner sat with us to explain about things to do. I would recommend this hotel for people who want to be away from the centre, for peace and beautiful location.

Room Tip: A walk along the tree lined canal is a beautiful way to be active and spend some time

This is a calmly situated hotel with a spa feeling close to an old mill, which makes it very romantic in spite of its modernity. The decoration is thus modern and not very personal but the reception clerk was very nice and friendly. There is also a small kitchen so you can do some shopping in a grocery shop nearby, cook and then have your own meals on the terrace. However, I could recommend to spend one evening in the restaurant, since the food and wine was really good. It was a beautiful, relaxing and unusual place in the south of France, but it has no «local charm» (if that is what you look for). Rather, this could be anywhere in the world.
