“Disappointing”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 July 2014 via mobile

Having visited many, many other similar 'I's' the service we received was poor. Although there was an abundance if pamphlets, leaflets etc the service was indifferent. No information on walking paths around Uzes except the one standard handout on Uzes which was most misleading and lacking in terms on available walks and paths to follow.

“The most officious, but ever-so- helpful personality in the Uzes TI”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 June 2014

Get ye here before doing anything first in town. The Office is easy to access info on everything necessary in this fairy -tale French village oozing Provencal charm.

Want to loose yourself in time? add some high towers, narrow medieval streets and you have landed in the most beautiful place on the planet. These words were uttered by an officious but proud daughter of Uzes at the Tourist info office.

It is without a doubt,a walkable township, delightful from a theatrical and architectural viewpoint. The skyline from a distance is pure Hollywood with the town's lofty spires a drama to be savoured.

The epicentre of Uzes is the arcade-lined Place aux Herbs where on Saturday, one of the best and most colourful markets in southern France takes place. Its hectic and frantic and so-so Frenchy, but if you disdain crowds, pop back on Wednesday for a smaller version.

We stocked-up on triple-pork-pate,crusty baguette, olives and slices of cheeses for an early breakfast. Later in the afternoon we stopped for caffeine and snack at L'oustal, one of the best eateries in town, before we cased out the boutiques and lux goodies. This is no hick town,i assure you. With a population of 8300,it boasts a lifestyle closer to Paris then the south of France.

We stopped for a sumptuous lunch at Les Terroirs and decided to walk it off, after driving to Pont du Gard, along the top of this remarkable Roman aqueduct that crosses the Gardon River. Then come back to Uzes to enjoy the very late afternoon, when tourist buses have departed with their charges and check out the rest of the village and even climb one of the famous towers, like La-Tour Fenestrelle.

Superb township. Many thanks to the TI staff for their spot-on recommendations for our lovely meals and maps to get to Pont du Gard and other attractions in town.

“Saturday Market”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 May 2014

By far the best market I have experienced in our travels (South America, Central America, Europe, China). Great sights, smells, variety. Starts about 7:30 and by 10 the town is packed. All you hear about if wonderful fresh French food is right there.
there is done way circular flow to the main street where the market is bounded more or less. Use Navigon (Garmin product that is very good) to find a parking lot. There are kids there who will help you find a parking spot in this very crowded environment…give them a tip!
Ate a dozen very fresh oysters on the street for lunch. Find a quiet spot after shopping sit and watch people or read over a glass of wine….Tres Magnifique

“The whole place, not just the office!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 September 2013

This has to be the most "french" place i have ever been to. To be honest I hesitate to share this because the place is wonderful. We went on a Saturday when there isa market ( there's also one on Wednesday). There's plenty of parking but it takes a bit of finding.

The small streets are authentic, the architecture Renaisance, plenty of interconnecting alleys. There are street cafes, bars and restaurants aplenty. We tried the cloistered Cafe de l'Oustal -very good.

On market day the place buzzes - but do get there in the morning because it finishes at about 13:30.

We just walked around and just lived the ambience of the place.

Enjoy it, we did.
