Novotel Limoges Le Lac

Novotels may have jazzed up the reception areas and the restaurants, but they would have to knock down the building and start the rooms from scratch to make any significant changes. However, you know what you're getting when you book Novotel and this was no exception. Smart reception area with a pleasant little bar, and the room (I upgraded) had modern bathroom and room furniture which helped mitigate the age of the room and other common parts. Really creaky lift!
The food started off OK with a delicious courgette soup, but went downhill from there and was only saved by a nice half-bottle of Chinon.
Location is excellent, and for this road trip was a perfect first stop after the channel tunnel on my way down to Barcelona.
Novotels are not as cheap as they were, and I'm beginning to look for alternatives now on my road trips as the price between a Novotel and something better is beginning to narrow.

We stayed on a Saturday night. on our way travelling up from the Pyrenees to Caen so the hotel was well located. I would imagine that the hotel caters more for business people so it was extremely quiet. There was only one other person for dinner and 2 more for breakfast! The evening meal was fine but pretty pricey for what we got.

The room was large but we have had better nights sleep.

Stayed at this hotel in February whilst visiting a factory we have in Limoges. I have stayed there before and have always been very happy with the standard of the rooms, food etc. However, the staff are really surly. I thought it was just because I did not speak French but having recently taken a French speaking colleague there I can now report back that it is just because they are really disengaged from their clients.

Room Tip: No fitness room but you can run around the lake

WE stop in Limoges and stayed at Novotel, when returning from Andorra.
The hotel is from easy reach from the motorway. The receptions was welcoming and Staff were extremely helpful and happy to attend any question and request.
Food was good. The restaurant opens until 10.30-11pm which really gives you flexibility when travelling from far away when the arriving time could be uncertain.
The rooms were simple but spacious and very clean. Bathroom had shower only but it was very clean and functional.
WE will happily stay again in our next trip next year.
PS There is a children's area by reception with Xbox games and some other features for little kids. Great place to keep children entertained.

This hotel is very conveniently situated just off the A20 motorway (Paris-Toulouse) so makes a good stopping off point if you're travelling south or going north. You just have to be aware that if you're going south, you need to go off at junction 33, as junctions 31 and 32 only exist south-north!

The welcome was warm and informative and we chose our room overlooking the lake. This was spacious and quiet, clean and well-appointed. We went for a walk round the lake and also explored the Roman ruins nearby. We had dinner in, which was good and excellent value for money. Breakfast was up to the usual high Novotel standard. The staff were efficient and friendly and all in all, it was a very good experience and one which I'm sure we will repeat.

Room Tip: Rooms with a lake view are great but there is traffic noise if you choose to open the windows instea...

I read the bad reviews on the internet for this hotel but thought a Novotel must have a basic standard. Wrong. They insisted I had booked a single room (I clearly booked a family and even sent them an email in French confirming children's ages) and turned very unpleasant when I pointed to 2 living children standing next to me.. It was the last room so Front Desk frantically shoved 2 roll away beds in for the children. (leaving the front desk unattended even though other people were waiting to check in). The room was so crammed we couldn't move. It was a smoking room that stank, even though I specified non-smoking. A/c didn't work so sweltered all night even with the window open. WiFi didn't work. Food was truly truly atrocious and overpriced. Price of the room was outrageous considering you can have a Suite Novotel (highly recommended) for the same price. Believe the other reviews and avoid this hotel like the plague. Don't know how the management team get away with this standard for a Novotel.
