Grandmont Gites
Reviewed 21 June 2014

We were on a French road trip and decided to stay at Grandmont mostly because it was located along our route, yet out in the quiet of the countryside.

Had I known then what I know now, we would definitely have re-arranged the trip to include more nights there. It's in a lovely, peaceful spot---the swim in the warm pool was especially welcome after a long day in the car. The gardens are beautiful, the dogs and cats are friendly. Again, I SO wish we'd known to book at least 3-4 nights there to enjoy the horses and local towns. Such an excellent value too!

Tony, thanks for having us--I hope we'll be back! Beth, Barry, Bill, and Diane

Room Tip: I can't imagine there's a bad choice!

I'm not sure which part was the best! The warm and generous hosts, the riding through miles of quiet, picturesque forest on well cared for family horses, the friendly dogs and cats, the charming and comfortable gites, lovely gardens and pool to relax and enjoy, oh and quad biking down to the local lakes. Something for everyone in a pretty and tranquil area of France!

Room Tip: Les Arbres was spacious and comfortable with original features of beautiful fireplace and stone wall...

We stayed at Grandmont Gites for 6 weeks this spring at the end of our 2 year European adventure and couldn't have dreamed up a more peaceful or beautiful place to finish our journey.

It is a little piece of heaven in the Grandmont area with endless walking trails through the forest and villages, lakes and trickling streams, interesting history at your fingertips, unique charm and ample natural beauty in a tranquil setting.

The gite itself was immaculately clean, elegantly presented and extremely comfortable and cozy. It has everything you need and more. What amazing value you get for the price here. On top of it all it was dog friendly and our pup was treated to a dog's dream holiday.

We made use of the quad, went horseback riding, went in the pool and spent time in the gardens soaking up the sun, relaxing and star gazing at night. There is so much to enjoy without even leaving the property. Saying that, there is lots of interesting day trips to do in the surrounding area.

The best part of all were the hosts. Tony, Caroline and Katie were all amazing hosts. They were friendly, extremely helpful, and went above and beyond what they needed to do to ensure we enjoyed our stay and felt at home. We ventured to gain work experience in the area for a part of our stay and the whole family was happy to help us accomplish that through inquiries with contacts they had. We enjoyed their company and their kindness and have nothing but praise for the Downey family. The dogs Archie and Oscar are pretty awesome too.

Our initial thoughts were that this place, the area, and it's hosts sounded too good to be true. But believe me, it is true! We could not recommend Grandmont Gites more. Don't hesitate anymore and go see for yourself!

After a demanding and stressful year in London, I searched for a peaceful retreat to relax. Grandmont Gites is an incredible find. It's located in the beautiful Mont D' Ambazac in the Limousin region of France. My home away from home was Horseshoe Gite, very cozy and clean, and most importantly for me--dog friendly. The Gite has all modern amenities, including full bath, something I really appreciated. There's quad riding, horseback riding, geocaching, swimming at the gite, along with numerous other activities available throughout this region. Fun, fun, fun! Owner/managers Caroline and Tony go above and beyond the call of duty to make the stay memorable. They are extremely welcoming and very helpful with information for all the day to day needs like grocery, gas, banking, restaurants, shopping, etc., even providing the basics for your arrival. There is even a car available for hire which was an incredible bonus and allowed me to see and experience many details of this region that I would not have been able to see. I had no experience with horses but Caroline, along with Marmalade and Benjie made my horseback riding experience through the surrounding forest totally cool! Both Caroline and Tony are extremely knowledgable on the customs and history, including the religious history, of this amazing region. Activities for this area are unlimited and there really is something for everyone. I came here for peace, culture, history, food, and wine and found all that and more around every corner. I cannot wait to return this summer.

My wife, Maria and me along with our cousins stayed at Grandmont Gites in September 2013. It was spectacular and cosy at the same time. The location is dramatic being as it is - nestled in the picturesque woods of Mont D' Ambazac. We stayed at the Horseshoe Gite. It was clean and well equipped with all modern amenities without losing its rustic and country flavour. Our hosts Tony and his wife Carolien were warm, welcoming and generous hosts. We discovered this place along the way during our driving holiday across France. If we had any regret it was that we did not spend enough time at Tony & Carolien's place. They have enough amenities and activities to keep you occupied for a long break. If you are not into activities, you can sink into the peace and tranquillity the location offers. Surely if we were to visit France again we will give ourselves enough time at this Gite. Would gladly recommend a stay at Grandmont Gites.

Recently stayed at Horseshoe Gite, Grandmont and had a really nice break despite the weather. Caroline & Tony were excellent hosts.

Recommend Tony's evening meals great value for money and very filling.

Plenty to do in the area. The gite has a shared swimming pool and Horse-riding is available.

Even the fact that 'Summer ended' the day after we arrived, could not spoil our stay. The gites are in a really beautiful location, well equipped (Wi-Fi useful for checking weather forecasts!) and the hosts are really friendly and provide lots of info. The forest walks straight from the door are brilliant - don't expect to see anyone else! Made good use of the GPS and the mountain bikes. Also enjoyed relaxing in the large garden and swimming in the nicely warmed pool. Got an unscheduled visit from a deer while sat in the garden. All the gites are in the same building, so you do get to hear other guests - but not a major problem, and you need to drive to get to shops and restaurants, but it's a small price to pay for being in such a tranquil location. Highly recommended.
