No English translations on boards, had to hire hand set which was awkward to the use, with kids in tow, some very graffic as expected.

I have to say we did not love Limoges. We were only there because of a last minute flight cancellation. To be fair, it rained non-stop and we were there on a public holiday so we probably did not see it at its best. Walking around, huddled under our umbrellas, we were happy to see that the Musee de la resistance was open and, what's more, it was free entry! We couldn't have asked for a better way to spend an hour or so. It is a really nicely set out museum and very atmospheric. We learnt a lot about the history of France in WWII and the role of the resistance. The audio guide (2 eu) is essential if you don't understand French - it would be hard to follow otherwise.

This is an excellent museum but -- just as with the equally excellent museum at Oradour -- the audio guides refer to numbers which are hard to find. It was exasperating to waste time looking for numbers when they could be made much larger, perhaps even projecting from the wall, so as to be more visible. But content was excellent.

The Musee de la Resistance in Limoges starts with a comprehensive history of France throughout the Second World War. It then continues to show the deprivations of life under occupation, and gives clear explanations of the prevailing attitudes of the time, in an unbiased way.

Particularly fascinating are the snapshots of those involved in the Resistance, including a photo wall with individual details, and a good deal of background on key figures such as Georges Guingouin.

We highly recommend a visit to the museum, particularly as an ideal starting point for exploring the Resistance history of the whole region, and to provide clear background to the reprisals wreaked at Oradour-sur-Glane.
