“Impressive cathedral with beautiful stained glass windows”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 August 2014

Metz offers a large number of attractions - most importantly the beautiful Gothic Saint Etienne Cathedral (St Etienne=St Stephen). The cathedral - construction began in the 13th century upon a 5th century site - has one of the tallest naves in the world. The stained glass windows are very beautiful - and the modern windows by Chagall and Villon blend perfectly with the original 14th century windows.
Even in the high tourist season the cathedral offers a place of quietude and tranquility. Access to the vault and the treasury cost a small fee.

“One of the best Cathedrals I've seen in France”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 July 2014

I've traveled through France quite a bit, and this is still by far one of my favorite cathedrals, better then Notre Dame in terms of how peaceful and quiet it is. The ceilings are also taller in St. Stephen's. Go really early in the morning, its quiet and just sit in one of the chairs and take all the beauty of architecture and art inside.

“Worth visiting for the superb Chagall windows”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 July 2014

The gothic cathedral of Metz has some very beautiful stained glass - both ancient (13th century) and modern (Marc Chagall, 20th century). One of the highest naves in Europe. Free entrance.

“Huge, beautiful and inspiring”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 18 July 2014

After seeing this cathedral first, Notre Dame was surprisingly small by comparison. Beautiful working cathedral, a center of art and spirituality.
