“Perfectly respectable value hotel”
Reviewed 28 July 2014

No real frills at Hotel du Tigre, but a friendly welcome, and nice shady rooms very welcome after a very hot day, as is a shower with plenty of hot water. Rooms full of character and comfortable beds.

Walk into downtown Verdun is, as others say, about 15-20 minutes, but as an upside takes you past the Citadel and gives you a feel for how the town hangs together.

Plenty of parking and free WiFi appreciated, as is perfectly solid and competitively priced breakfast.

Room Tip: Top floor can get a bit hot at the height of summer, leaving the velux window open is a nice option...

As others have said this hotel is a little worn in places but for the price you pay it's good value for money and everything was clean and worked with friendly staff and a good location for touring the area. The room was simple in decor and had tiled floors and a reasonable sized bathroom with shower. Breakfast was naturally continental and the microwave was left so outside these hours families could warm their own meals etc. The hotel is in a quiet suburb and the restaurant they recommend around the corner offered good food but was closed on Sundays. Distance to the centre of town was around 25 mins on foot (but then I'm a slow walker)

The hotel is old. I heard that during WWI the basement was used as a field hospital. But it is reasonably maintained. The quality is typical for a French ** hotel. Small shower, thin doors with normal cheap keys and one should not bother about rust spots, scratches of use or some paint that is gone. But everything worked, nothing was broken, every morning and evening there was hot water and, most important, the bed was good and clean (a pity the French still use blankets and not the comforters used in the Netherlands and Germany). The staff was very friendly and helpful and there is plenty of free parking space in front and at the side and at the back of the hotel.
The price of the hotel is competitive, but breakfast is not included. It is a pity that for the 7,30 euro the breakfast sometimes does not give you fresh bread. French bread should be fresh and crispy, not old and sticky.
The hotel is on the outside of Verdun, it is a 15 - 20 minute walk to the city center.

Room Tip: If you sleep in the hotel on a Saturday night, be sure you sleep at the back of the hotel. There is...

A little dated but friendly customer service sums up this hotel. The 7€ continental breakfast was good. Hotel wifi which included with the room worked great. The room had linoleum floors and the shower was very small.

The initial impression is that it is a little tired and in need of a freshen up. Once inside everything is spotlessly clean, just a bit dated and perhaps a little odd (a member of the household cavalry guards the stairs while a poster for Apocalypse Now adorns the foyer wall). However the welcome was warm, and the breakfast had plenty of choice. Located a little out of town, it's about a 15-20 minute walk to the centre.

The rooms are clean and the beds are comfortable. The bathroom is also clean, but could be renovated. the staff is courteous and helpful and go out of their way to help you. One draw back is the fact that there are no recommedable restaurants/pubs nearby. Without a car, etc. you are stuck with walking through a part of town that had seen better years.
Breakfast is simple and rustic.

We have a large family and when we travel it is a challenge for me to find rooms that we will all fit in. This hotel had a family room that was a great solution for us. The only problem was that one of the beds was in a loft area only accessible by a ladder. The ladder was not secured properly and our children are all young so we were not able to use the additional bed. We were able to make the remaining beds work.
The bathroom was small with a shower, no tub, but the water pressure was good and there was plenty of it.
The pillows were not great, but manageable.
The gentleman in reception was very nice and was able to bring a crib to our room even though I had not reserved one.
We were only in Verdun for one night to visit the battle fields and continue our trip. We didn't see any restaurants near the hotel, but we were able to find a good place to eat.
I would recommend this hotel for a short stay, but not more than that.

Madame

cordialement
