“Well pleased with this hotel”
Reviewed 22 September 2013

spent two nights recently at this hotel in Cahors, reception staff very pleasant and helpful, bedrooms clean with good shower facilities. Some bedrooms also have a bath. Plenty of pillows and towels provided
the location of hotel is central, old town perhaps a 10 minute walk.
Only minus was there was no bread provided at breakfast, two types of bread rolls, the brown roll had very very hard crust and the white roll were scarce.
Otherwise a very pleasant stay and have no hesitation in recommending this hotel.

Room Tip: ask for room at back of hotel, which are much quieter.

We stayed here whilst travelling to the South of France. Finding the hotel was a bit of a nightmare - note that the direction signs in town are for pedestrian and will take you the wrong way down a one way street. The hotel was not inspiring from outside or in the reception area but the welcome from the staff made up for this and the money has clearly been spent on making sure the rooms and bathrooms are pleasant - and this seems the right way to do things. By the time we arrived the hotel's car park was full and although there was other garage parking available at a cost the receptionist encouraged us to look for a space on the street first (which we did) as this was free. We didn't eat at the hotel but received good advice on different restaurant options in town and a map so we didn't get lost

Stayed 1 night - close to station, clean and helpful staff. Breakfast was poor - very little choice, no fresh fruit and dreadful coffee for 8 €uros poor value for money. Best to have breakfast in a local cafe.

Small hotel in the middle of Cahors. Good location, very clean rooms, very friendly front desk eager to help and reserve a restaurant.
We only stayed one night but were very happy with our experience.

We recently spent two nights at Hotel de France in Cahors. Staff was friendly, room OK but not more. Location close to the river and the railway station is a pre.
Coming by car we har problems fintding the hotel, since signs indicating the direction went against the traffic in a one way street.

Hotel Le Valentre/Hotel de France is probably the best option you have in Cahors, especially if you are driving. But before I review the hotel let me explain why I mentioned two hotels above while I am reviewing one. The point is that Le Valentre and Hotel de France are essentially the same hotel. They are located in opposite wings of the same building, share the reception, bar, breakfast room, parking space and the garage and while I was told that the *** Hotel de France was updated more recently than ** Le Valentre, I didn’t find noticeable difference comparing the rooms, except a room that I was shown in Hotel de France had full bath while the room we took at Le Valentre had shower + toilet. Both room had all standard amenities: flat screen TVs, desks, comfortable beds, etc.; both rooms were (truly) non-smoking. Maybe a room in Hotel de France was a little bigger but both rooms were of decent size. Since having full bath vs shower + toilet made no difference for us we chose the room in Le Valentre because it had a view of the Le Valentre bridge and surrounding hills and it was a bit cheaper than a room in Hotel de France.

The hotel is standard, faceless chain hotel in a small French city. Of course you wont know that you are in Cahors when in the room, if not for the view of the bridge. Our fears of noise from the railway station did not materialize – the place was very quite. The shatters on windows are added bonus as they allow sleeping late. Employees are polite and helpful, English spoken.

The hotel is located on a quiet street about 3 min walk from the railway station and less than 10 min from
● Le Valentre bridge,
● The very center of Cahors
● The St. Etienne cathedral, market square and old Cahors.
There is plenty of free public parking around but we used private hotel parking as it is cheap.
I can’t say anything about breakfast as we didn’t take one – we sleep too late.
Overall the hotel is a decent place to stay and a good base to explore Cahors and the countryside along the banks of Lot.

This place somewhat looks like a temple to stucco. Stucco otside, inside, everywhere. Even in the bathrooms. And anyone with a little experience with hotels know that stucco and bathroom is an absolute no-no. Anyway, this hotel is an anonymous thing in a styleless street. It has yellow corridors and dirty green doors. I mean, what's wrong with off-white?
Cahors is a superb little city in the South of France but there is nothing in this hotel that remotely makes you think of it. It might as well be located in the middle of nowhere, by an interstate. Yes that's it. This hotel would fit best in a truck stop near Richmond, Virginia.
