The hotel was quaint. Very clean. I had a room with a loft in which u could unavenged a tea party or a cocktail. The help were so kind and spoke English. I am so glad I had an opportunity to be there.

This hotel was well located to the Basilica and the Grotto, Most of the hotels require a steep walk down to visit the Grotto and a steep climb back to the hotels. The Hotel America was one of those steep climbs and had a restaurant, small bar and gift shop. The rooms were a disappointment, small, sparse furniture and only adequate beds. Our bathroom was a narrow small area with NO ventilation. Only redeeming factor was windows opened to the street below.
Room did not give you a feeling that you wanted to stay in it. The only reason I rated it 3 stars was staff was ok, food good in restaurant and I have no experience with 3 star hotels in France. There was a definite difference between what I was familiar with in Spain where 3 star hotels I stayed in were nicer than this one. This trip from Barcelona on a bus was arranged by family who accompanied us. The trip was very inexpensive on the bus and included meals. Then we found out why. It seems we had to go through a sales presentation for electric beds and other products by the company that booked the trip and hotel. Never again. But back to the hotel. There were many on the same street that looked about the same as our hotel so I decided to rate them the 3 stars as this may be the norm for this area. The Basilica and Grotto were very nice and well worth visiting. The town was over commercialized and there was one souvenir shop after another everywhere. If you come, first do your research on the hotels.

Hotel business in Lourdes is a real industry, so it is always tricky to find a hotel that suits all your needs. We liked our room as it had 3 beds and a large bathroom. The bathroom was clean, but the carpet in the room had some stains on it. Breakfast was a nightmare: everyone in the hotel had to have it at the same time. Tables were not cleaned and the coffee was terrible. The room keys are on a display which is accessible for everyone. When I complained about that, the staff told me that they are doing this for many years already. Basically, everyone who wants it, can enter your room… The location of the hotel is just fine as it is very close to the sanctuaries.

The hotel was conveniently located. Rooms were relatively good. Everything would have been fine except for the fact that we were robbed. Our room was broken into through the window with a defective lock and we lost all our handcarried luggage with some valuables, while we were out for about an hour as we joined the candlelight procession. Our room was situated on the fifth floor with windows having a ledge that would have been convenient for the thief to cross over as it lead to a small path.

Except for a the night shift man who called the police, the hotel management did not seem to care about the theft.

So I warn fellow travellers, do not stay on the fifth floor. Inspect the windows and where it could lead to. Secure your belongings if you plan to stay in this Hotel.

We recently stayed at this hotel during our Easter vacation and the hotel location is great. The room is average but you can hear the water if someone is taking a bath from your neighbor room. The bathroom is not as clean as we expected. We like the lobby, there's a little and nice souvernir shop that closed really late hours. The complimentary breakfast was ockay but overall if we had to come back again, we would try to stay at other place.
