“Watchout for thieves”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 June 2010

We just came back from our Europe trip and Lourdes is one place we visited. We stayed in Astoria Vatican Hotel for 3 nights and on our first night we lost our SLR Cannon 500 D Camera, 2 cellphones and wallet at around 2am to 5am. The robber climb the terrace which we were sure was locked since we know that we were not from the place. However, the robber managed to open the terrace door and got our things. We asked the help of the staff but to our dismay they told us to report it personally to the police. We were not from the place and we are not familiar of the process. They did not bother assisting us on what to do not even telling us where thepolice station was.

Had booked to stay in the Saint Rose , but could not believe the price, so changed booking to the Astoria, which offered a good rate.
The hotel is situated in an ideal location, approx 5 minutes walk to the domain and the grotto, and 5-10 minutes to Lourdes town (market, etc).It is opposite the Poor Clare's so if your room faced out onto the road and convent you can hear the bells which are rung quite early on a morning, and the delivery lorries which leave their engines running.
The hotel staff especially Andrew, Dominic and the Lovely Irish lady on reception could not have been more helpful and friendly.
The room we stayed in a triple was large and very clean. We were on the 5th floor which had wonderful views, we heard no noise from the hotel although as expected in Lourdes you could here some noise from the bars and other hotels if you had the windows open.
We have stayed in many hotels in Lourdes as we visit 2 or more times a year and would recommend this hotel to our family and friends and will stay here again.

We have just returned from a five night stay at the Astoria and have to say we were very impressed, especially after reading some of the comments on here beforehand. The staff are excellent, especially the Irish Lady in charge, the waiters and the chambermaids. The two ladys on reception were by far the worst though, very bad attitude from the pair of them. The food was excellent, very tasty and plenty of it too.We thoroughly enjoyed every minute of our stay there.Although it wasn't the poshest hotel we have ever stayed at,the service and general friendliness of the staff made it for us.We will definitely stay there again when in Lourdes.

Paid 59 Euros, including tax, or $80 USD for this room. For additional monies, you can purchase breakfast with one or two meals/day. Didn't do this as I don't like to be tied into a schedule but it is a value for the food. Large spacious room with comfy beds, bathtub, shower and small hotel samples. Nice lobby area. Staff were extremely helpful, especially when the lock on my suitcase wouldn't open. Bernard and Nicolas were able to cut the lock so I could open my suitcase. Stored luggage free of charge before and after check-in while we toured the sites. Great location-short walk from the sanctuaries. 10% discount in hotel shop for people who stay there. Fifteen-twenty minute walk from the train station.

We stayed in the Astoria for 2 nights - which was plenty ! While our room was very spacious with a balcony overlooking the city the level of cleanliness was very poor e.g. bedspreads & carpet stained, dead flies stuck on lampshades. Cleanliness overall in the hotel was not good. The breakfast is very basic. On a positive note however, the hotel is in a very good location if you are interested in visiting the Holy sites - grotto, basicillica etc. and also close to the local restaurants. For the more authentic restaurants head away from the Grotto area towards the town centre.

Stayed at Astoria-Vatican for 2 nights with a group of 20 people. The Lady manager, an Irish was very friendly and helpful/accommodating. She comes around during dinner time to see that everything is OK. The rooms are small but clean. The only minus side of this hotel is it lack staff to help around during meal time and porters for the elderly.

I visited Lourdes with my husband and found the hotel to be clean and comfortable. Our Room was a bit small but as we were only there for a few days this was not a problem. The room has heating and air conditioning which were both required during our week end. Thunderstorms one day hot sun the next. The Manager of the hotel is a very friendly and helpful Irish lady who couldn't do enough for us. We ate our evening meal in the hotel as most of the local bars had pretty similar menus of steak and chips and spag. bol. The hotel meals were €13 for 3 courses and consisted of soup, meat and veg and dessert. Maybe the food wouldn't suit those looking for fine dining but we found the meals enjoyable enough for this pilgrimage type holiday. The hotel is very central for visiting the Grotto and has a garage space available for €7 per day. A nice hotel at a cheap price.
