This hotel has just been taken over by the group that own the hotel solitude in the town so it has gone through a radical makeover. Downstairs is roomy (but with dark wall paper). open plan bar through to restaurant area. However upstairs has not really changed all that much. They have updated the curtains and added new lampshades but attention to detail is a bit disappointing as you can see where the old light fittings were. We stayed on the 3rd floor and I have to say that I got to see all the rooms. Some are adequately spaced and may have a wardrobe but several were tight for space. I stayed in room 303 and it was a tiny twin. we had to lift the doors off the fitted wardrobe so that we could get into it without opening the doors hitting the bed and disturbing the person next to it. If you face the court yard then you are likely to hear a lot of noise from the nearby cafe's and a the courtyard itself. The decor upstairs is very dated and the lifts quite antique and slow. The bathrooms are tiny and large people will struggle if you need to keep the door closed (when I say door I mean corregated plastic shutter) If you are sharing with someone make sure you know them well !
But all that said the staff are generally friendly if you smile and compliment them alot and at least try some french. The food was good although you dont get a hugh amount of vegatables. The bar and staff are nice and Ste Rose is a 2 min walk to the Domain which is perfect. and 2 min walk to the bus stop which will take you to places like Pic de Jur and Gavarnge. The room service clean every day and the place was spotless to thier credit. soaps that ran out in the main toilets were replaced by the time you got to your next meal.
We used this hotel as we were on pilgrimage with 12 children who have disabilities, it's no frils but does the job and probably a better choice than several in Lourdes.
