“BEAUTIFUL HOTEL WITH REAL OLDE WORLDE CHARM & EXCELLENT SERVICE”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 October 2013

GRAND HOTEL MODERNE
This hotel is in an amazing location and the closest to the Lourdes Grotto (less than 100 yards away). It is a wonderful hotel with old worlde charm and elegance. The staff are all very helpful and friendly. We were treated with smiles and a warm personal service at all times.
We stayed on a half board basis and the food was fantastic. There is a set menu for Half Boarders and the dinner was fixed and didn’t offer a choice but for us it was all excellent. Home cooked, delicious and included Risotto starter, Duck, Veal and the most tender beef bourguignon I have ever tasted. Lovely desserts included a beautiful chocolate ice cream sundae and chilled crème caramel! I have heard that food in Lourdes can be a bit of a mixed bag so unless sourcing a good restaurant to dine in I would highly recommend eating at the hotel. Breakfast also was very good and eggs and bacon can be ordered with the waiter if desired and is part of the cost.
The rooms are clean, spacious and lovely. Be aware they are however very hot at night and if facing the street, opening windows at night means it gets noisy early morning.
I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel and its lovely staff and would stay again if I return to Lourdes. Particularly lovely was the beautiful singing from the processions taking place at the Grotto.
TIPS: Parking, you can park in the nearby municipal parking – 24 hrs is 19 euros. Or if not needing your car, park over the bridge on the right hand side (road to Pau). Or you can park up the street from the hotel opposite the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception from 8-1300 for 5 euros (you then get one free hour) then return at 1400 to pay for parking until 1900 for another 5 euros.
INTERNET:
Wifi connection in the rooms is minimal, people were sitting in the halls to connect. However a tip that no-one seemed to know about (as it was always free!) is to take the lift to the basement and there is a computer and printer that is always connected and you can use free of charge!
TEA/COFFEE making facilities in the room – there are none. Take you own kettle if required. As well as a TV in your room there is also darkened Cinema Style room with giant TV screen down in the basement for those who would want that.

Room Tip: If you would like a view of the evening processions book a corner suite.

I had a wonderful stay at this hotel: This is a very comfortable hotel with friendly staff that made you feel at home from the moment you check in. The superior room we booked was spacious, clean and we had a nice balcony with a side view of the Sanctuary. The restaurant was busy but the waiters were always helpful and friendly. I enjoyed the duck confit and my husband enjoyed the lamb chops - both generous servings and tasty. Loved it!! The wifi was working well in the reception area and in our room (we were both online on mobiles and laptops and had no problem). There is no onsite parking, but the public parking station is only 1 minute walk away. That wasn't an issue at all. The reception staff were very helpful in providing us directions for our drive to San Sebastian. I would definitely recommend this hotel as the best in Lourdes, you can feel how dedicated and attentive the staff and owners are.

This is a lovely hotel, room was nice and large by European standards, and the staff is helpful. We, too, were told the internet was down but that a technician would be working on it that day. The next day the staff said it was working and I was able to connect in the lobby but only for a few minutes and then it went out. We tried several times in the room for the next day or so, but never made the connection even though the staff said it was working. At night the noise from the street is a bit of annoyance, but it didn't last long. Of course, we had to open the windows because the air conditioning never came on even though we set the dial lower.

This hotel is really well located, just a few steps to the Sanctuary. The staff are friendly, the room is spacious and clean and breakfast has many options.
The hotel is beautiful and confortable. Will definately stay there again.

I booked the hotel few months ago and had last minute notice that the hotel is overbooked.... was really dissapointed as this was the first time for my mom visiting europe and i booked superb hotel to make the trip memorable; after some few mail exchanges Sylve made her best effort to accomodate us and i could not give enough compliment for the hotel and the staff!

this is THE hotel to go when visiting Lourdes..... make sure you booked their restaurant as well; regret that i did not

If the Front Desk clerk had not happily declared that internet was free AND available when we checked-in, our expectations would have been kept in check. Funny enough, each time we complained, the response which had something to do with the technicians working on it, was identical to what our friends were told who stayed in this hotel a month BEFORE! Nonetheless, our breakfast charges were all waived when we checked out for this trouble. The owners however, need to invest in the upgrade of their public areas and rooms, address the issue of their internet connection (especially in this day and age), and with its excellent location, and competent staff, would be a true winner in all respects.

This location is 1/2 block away from St. Joseph's gate, so you are very close to the grotto. My father can't walk a long way, so this is the main reason we stayed at this hotel. The service was good, the rooms were very nice. The breakfast buffett had good days and not so good days, but it was easy to start your day with breakfast in the hotel. Our room had a balcony overlooking the avenue and when everyone came back after the last service at midnight, you could hear everyone talking quite clearly. We were on the 3rd floor.
