Great location. Smack dab in the city center. Grocery store very close. Buffet breakfast until 10 weekdays. Staying here for 7 nights-still here as I write review. Beds are comfortable. The is maid friendly and sweet. Everybody has tried to communicate with us as best they can. Internet has spotty service. there is a seafood buffet on Friday night that I have not tried and lunch buffet that seems reasonably priced. Parking lot 100 feet away-expensive lot. It is a city lot not the hotels.
Refrigerator in our room. We have the larger size room which is very large.

Decided to stay in Montauban on my way from Paris to Andorra as like to try new French towns/cities although my understanding of the French language is minimal. Decided on the Mercure as you usually know what you are getting and from Google Street View was well located for a car park opposite. Hotel is a little dated, rooms could do we a bit of of an update. Typically French the a/c wasn't blowing out cold enough for my liking but the hotel can't be held for silly French legislation. Worth a stay for an evening or two but be warned, on a Sunday evening the town is shut.... only the restaurants in the main square were open.

After spending 4 delightful days at the Mercure Perigueux we were looking forward to our 4 night stay in Montauban . It is not possible to stop outside the hotel to unload and parking is in the public parking across a busy road . A trolley is provided. It had been a hot daybut our Privilege room had not been aired and it was like an oven . The air conditioning is operated from reception, something I have never previously encountered. The controls in the room did not work. They seem to think that just by sticking the word "Privilege" on the door it becomes one. The room was small and the only chairs were wooden. The wardrobe was far too small for two people. The shower head was too stiff and could not be raised . The hotel fixed it later. The television could receive only French channels - we do expect the BBC World or CNN from a 4-star hotel . The bar was bleak, not the sort of place to linger for long . The good things were the courteous and helpful staff and the breakfast and breakfast room . We have stayed in several Mercure hotels and all have been good . This experience has really damaged our confidence in the brand

I use this hotel when on business in the area and have found it reliable over the years with the same managers in charge. It's very well located right at the edge of the old town so there are some interesting things to see and do. There is no shortage of excellent restaurants within easy walking distance.
The actual hotel is relatively old and is not your standard chain hotel. It's been converted to hotel use and all the rooms are of a different size but have all the usual facilites including free wifi. I've always enjoyed a good stay but you need to be selective on the room you have.

One side faces directly onto the street which can provide some traffic noise early in the morning. Another side looks out over a pedestrianised street and at first sight this seems fine. That's until about 5 or 6 am when the fish delivery turns up for the fishmonger's shop opposite and the unloading takes place. The noise of the trolleys on the cobble stones is sure to disturb you. So my tip is to ask for a room at the back or on the inside.

The hotel is very centrally situated, the welcome was warm and we were very happy with our two night stay there. It is about 15 minutes walk from the train station.
The hotel is close to pedestrianised streets with interesting, quirky shops as well as cafes etc. Notre Dame cathedral is across the road.
The main square (Place Nationale) is surrounded by historic red brick buildings and there are several restaurants and cafes around the square. The square also hosts markets.
