The location of this hotel is very convenient, allowing you to explore the city centre without having to worry about walking a great distance back to your room. The room was well furnished, bed was extremely comfortable. The bathroom was clean, the toilet and tub are located in two separate rooms which was convenient. The pictures are accurately depict the hotel. We were very happy with our stay. Staff were friendly and helpful.

This hotel is located on the town square, which is ideal to see the highlights of Toulouse, but is impossible to get to by car with the numerous narrow streets, one way roads and multiple road closures due to council construction works. The hotel is nice and in character with the history of the old opera house.

The Hotel is located in the main square in Toulouse about a 20 minute walk from the train station. The walk to the train station is through a pretty seedy part of the town. The entrance to the hotel is up a small lane which is clearly visible from the square. The staff were courteous and helpful. Our room was on the first floor, the lift was too small for us, the luggage and the staff assisting, so we walked the stairs. The room was clean and decorated in rich red colours, only trouble was it was soooo small, access was down some steps after entering the room. The booking was last minute but was still rather expensive for a such a small space. The bathroom was however generous with plenty of granite, almost as big as the bedroom! we had dinner in the restaurant in the lane which is not associated with the hotel but is so convenient and very good. Make sure you check the size of the room before booking.

Room Tip: Take a room on the other side of the square and check the room size.

This was our second stay at the Grand Hotel de l'Opera. The first time we stayed in a Tradition Double room (it was quite alright) but this time we were upgraded to a Deluxe, which was nice, of course. The room was a bit more spatious and quite comfortable. Unfortunately, our bathroom was not quite de luxe: the air conditioning there did not work properly and the power of the shower was very weak. Also, we decided not to have breakfast at the hotel as it was really over-priced and there are plenty of cafes nearby that do breakfast at around 5 euros. However, the hotel has old-time charm and grandeur and it is comfortable. Furthermore, you can't really beat its location on Le Capitole, close to everything.
A word of warning, though: if you are driving, make sure that you have good directions as now, with all the construction work going on in the centre of Toulouse, your GPS may prove quite useless.

On an unexpected stayover in Toulouse I decided to join a friend who was staying at this hotel. I'm really glad I did. Everything is so extravagant and yes, in places the decor might seem a bit over the top and sometimes jaded. However, its really very different to any other hotel I had stayed in and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Its perfectly located for exploring Toulouse and the court yard is a lovely place to enjoy a nice glass of champagne.

Stopped off here for one night after a flight from the US on the way to Bordeaux wine country. The only problem was the difficulty of finding the hotel due to a lot of renovations on the Metro that blocked off many streets or reversed some one-way streets. Finally had to endure the ultimate guy humiliation and ask a policeman to show me how to get there on my hertz map. Turns out we were only a couple of blocks away but a half mile or more of driving. Once we found the place it was a very nice and comfortable hotel. The main restaurant has one Michelin star and the braserie is very good. I recommend it but don't try to drive and rely on your GPS. Learn how to ask for directions in French.

Mixed feelings about this hotel, torn between an 'Average' and 'Very good rating'.
The service was exemplary: very helpful, welcoming, efficient and smiling staff, from receptionists to doormen.
Our room was large and comfortable, good bathroom, modern TVs.
Good breakfast, ample choice, helpful service.
However a couple of minor negative points: whilst someone has tried hard at the decor, it's pretty dodgy. A lot of red velvet and not much by way of genuinely authentic detail. Very slightly tatty in places. But then again it is comfortable and in a way charming (and we're very fussy being in the business).
Secondly whilst there are rooms overlooking the Place du Capitole, the hotel does not own the space on the square at Ground Floor level. Therefore the main entrance is down a (perfectly pleasant) side alley, and the 'public' spaces on the Ground Floor are an odd shape and lack a decent outlook, being rather windowless.
All in all however a very pleasant stay, made delightful by lovely staff.
