“Only a Decent Location”
Reviewed 30 October 2013

We were only staying one night on our way out of the country, so for the price, I was not expecting much at all. This is what we found. Not much at all. The hotel is near the train station. However, on our way into the city, we had stayed at a different hotel that was close to the train station, yet was just as reasonable with better accommodations.

My biggest gripe is that due to the location, you have to buzz the desk clerk each and every time you want to enter. If the desk clerk was at the desk, this would not be a problem. The first time we had to wait a good ten minutes outside and another time just a little less. If the front door is locked because of the neighborhood, do we really want to be standing by the door as potential victims?

That said, the clerk was very nice and tried to make things okay for us. The first room we were in was small, but clean. The only plugs are under the desk, you have to get on your knees to unplug the TV or the light to use one. There are none free. The bathroom though did not have a working light. When I went down to report it to the clerk, he quickly agreed to come up to check it. When he was not able to fix it, he went to get replacement lights. After trying three different bulbs, he conceded it had to be the starter, which he could not fix and seemed to have dropped the issue. All this time that he was in our room working in this, I wondered how many people may be at the front door wanting to enter.

Finally, we had to assert ourselves into getting him to give us a different room with a working light. The only one available was on the ground floor right off of reception. This was not an issue, so we took it. That room was also small, clean, but the bathroom handle was dangling from the door. We dared not close it completely for fear it would fall off.

We did not take the breakfast there. The cost was 1.40 more than what they charged at a much better hotel in Andorra and from the looks of the restaurant, it definitely would not be worth the cost. There are a number pastry shops to get a quick bite at a much greater savings.

Room Tip: Make sure all things are in working order before you unpack. Check the lights and electric outlets i...

This was my third visit to Toulouse but my first time staying in a hotel. It was a fortunate choice. Right by the train station in what passes for the local the red light district we worried that it would be more of a bordello than hotel, but our worries were for naught. The place was a bbc- basic but clean. The comfortable rooms came with the basic amenities and the staff was friendly.
Downside: Toulouse is safe enough but this is not an area that you want to wander alone at night. As the night gets on you'll have to be buzzed into the building. A number of people high on strong beer, among other things, and low on life roam the area with their dogs.

We needed a 1 night stopover in Toulouse and paid €55 a night.

Location has good transport links as the main train station is a 2 min walk and the airport shuttle stops even closer than that. However, a strip club and sex shop are within 100 m so perhaps not 1 for a family stay. The centre ville is a 10 min walk.

We asked for a room facing the canal, which is picturesque but you then have more traffic noise if you want the windows open. The bed was comfy and the room was spotless if a little cramped and basically furnished. There was no kettle and we only had 1 towel provided between 2. The receptionist was helpful though not hugely welcoming.

If you require a short stay on a budget and can settle for the location and basic rooms there is nothing else wrong with this hotel.

The hotel is just 5 mins walk from the rail station. Lots of eateries and grocery stores around. Our room was pretty small but we were given a room with a tiny balcony.. Travellers with huge luggages, finding a space inside the room is a challenge.. There is an elevator for guests.. The room is clean and passable, the only value to stay here is the reasonable hotel rates and its location..

The hotel is really close to the train station which was great for us and it is easy to walk into the main part of town where the bars and restaurants and shops are. The room was big and great value for money. The man behind reception was lovely and very helpful. He even did my washing for me when I asked where the local laundry was. It was a little noisy on the street at night but nothing to keep us awake for long. Friends of ours paid much more for a room at a different hotel and the room was half the size of this. A great find.

This hotel is in a great location for the centre of Toulouse, however it is very dated, a little cramped and in need of some new decoration.

That said, my stay was for business and the hotel was fine for this purpose.

It is clean and the staff are efficient.

If you are looking for more than a business stay, I would look elsewhere in Toulouse, which is a beautiful city.

The hotel de Bordeaux in Toulouse is very conveniently located close to the main train station (Matabiau) and only a 10 minute walk from the city centre. Less than one minute walk from the hotel, you can find a spot of the "VélôToulouse" - the cheap bike rental system. By using your credit card it only takes you 3 minutes to sign up for a one day or one week visitor's pass which you can use to cycle and discover Toulouse. The hotel has a "world heritage" Canal du Midi view, and though next to a busy street, it's pretty quiet. Hotel de Bordeaux is living up to its location on Bvd "Bonrepos" - you get a good night sleep. The hotel advertises with free wifi. Unfortunately, during our three day stay, it only worked well during the first day, and only on the ground floor.

The only real downside is that the proximity to the train station also comes along with homeless people and prostitution in some of the nearby streets.

Room Tip: The upper rooms are quieter.
