We used the hotel for a short break recently and found it in the perfect location to explore Toulouse. It is situated in a beautiful old building with very modern interiors, while the rooms are well kitted out with all mod cons. We also considered the hotel reasonable value for money. There are plenty of excellent restaurants in walking distance from the hotel. We especially enjoyed the Oldest Brasserie in Toulouse, just 10 min walk from the station.

This is the third time we have stayed there and the service was as good as ever. However in comparison to a great Hotel in the centre of Rome, the Balcon falls short on room size and price. On booking well in advance we requested a particular room and found this was unavailable on arrival. In general we would say that the staff are the greatest asset.

Room Tip: Request a room with a view over the Square

The Grand Balcon is located in the center of Toulouse and very convenient to shopping and the subway system. Our room was very clean, modern and well apportioned. We had a street side room, so about 1/2 of the nights there were revelers out in the street until 3-4am. These were students singing and shouting right outside our room. We didn't ask for a different room, because it was a nice room, but I would recommend a room that doesn't face the street. The breakfast at the hotel was your typical European hotel breakfast with scrambled eggs, proscuitto, salami, ham, assorted cheeses, fruit juices, yogurts, croissants, bread, fruit cup, tea, and nescafe coffee. This cost 18 euro/day which was a little steep for us. The staff was very nice and greeted us warmly each day. We had confusion on our bill, but they were nice about making corrections. Bottom line is that this is a nice hotel and I recommend it with reservations. First, get a room away from the street noise and check your bill carefully.

Room Tip: Do not stay on the street side.

The hotel has a very nice design and the room was very nice. Reception "desks" look wonderful, very nice. There are 2 of those. When we arrived one guy was telephoning (long), the other person (at the other "desk") looked at us and walked away, without saying anything. Check in went finally quite smooth afterwards but you did not have any feeling of client orientation. Breakfast was nice. But again, more on "exterior" and desgin than on functionality. Chairs were very low, nice to have a cocktail but for breakfast it was not really convenient. Older persons would not even be able to get up from those (nice!) seats. Overall: the room was very nice but the hotel as a whole was for us more design "oriented" and not really client friendly.

We stayed in a deluxe room that was beautifully appointed with a Nespresso coffee machine in the room and a selection of free non-alcoholic drinks in the fridge. The air conditioning worked well in the heat, and the bed was large and comfortable. Disappointingly this is where the compliments end. We were in a room at the end of a dark corridor on the second floor facing a side street, where the noise from party revellers outside could clearly be heard from inside our room. When we asked the staff for a quieter room, we were told there was nothing else available. Overall the staff were less than helpful throughout our stay, indifferent and standoffish - they really let this hotel down.

Parking in Toulouse central is a problem. The hotel does not have any concierge parking or any deals for parking places. If you choose the underground car park in the square, it is close but pricey.

Room Tip: Choose a room on an upper floor or at the back of the hotel to avoid the noise levels from outside.

Had a pleasure to stay for one night in this hotel in late September. Comfortable room with a view on Toulouse's central square. Was upgraded by hotel. Helpful staff. Unlike most of Americans I believe that French are very pleasant and hospitable people. Stay in this hotel is another testament to my believe. Although parking is not provided by the hotel it is reasonably easy to do by yourself, just around the corner. Would stay there again.

We chose this hotel for a three night stay in September based on reviews. We were not disappointed. Excellent room at the rear of the hotel and thus quiet. Great location for Toulouse centre. Like other reviewers I don't understand the dark corridors, but that is a minor gripe.
We were able to negotiate breakfast in the rate, otherwise better value in local cafes.
Overall a very good hotel for a short break in Toulouse.

Room Tip: Rooms at the back of the hotel are quieter.
