The mighty Garonne seems to amble its way through Toulouse and that is a very good pace to take when you walk along the banks of this river. There is so much to see and so many places to stop and have a snack or drink. There is a real sense that the Garonne is the life blood of Toulouse and other settlements along its meandering path. The history can be felt in the bordering building and is often illustrated on useful information boards. The wildlife can be observed and photography is a must to record amazing scenes. A walk along this river is a must when in Toulouse.

In the south-west of France, very often the weather is favorite for the nicest walk of Toulouse. Just follow the banks of beautiful Goronne river and discover historical buildings and amazingly sceneries disrupted by ancient bridges like the 500 years old Pont-Neuf. And all that accompanied by thousands of plane trees.

On a nice day a pleasant stroll. We decided to walk along the central part of the city river on the day of the marathon! However it seemed to bring the setting more alive. Thundering hoards to one side and the slowly moving river to the other. The old bridge is superb. Information boards along the walk are in French and English. Well worth a detour if staying in town and you have the time (say 1-2 hours slow walk)

We walked along the Garonne for half an hour or so, watching the traffic on the river (mostly skiffs and rowboats) and enjoying the view. It was a nice sunny afternoon: perfect for a riverside stroll.
