A simple over night trip to Dunkirk spoiled by horrific traffic, horrendous weather, rubbish hypermarket and concerns when we didn't seem able to check in - were dispelled by the very charming manager/owner of this hotel. Panic ensued when we appeared to not be able to get in but I blame the very confusing guest who claimed not to speak English.. I am sure that he did.... and tried to tell us that the hotel was closed .. However all was saved by a very nice clean albeit functional room .. Fantastic location, lovely restaurants nearby. Bathrooms are very small but do the job. Breakfast was lovely ... Not if you like the full English... But if you love a continental breakfast as we do then very good. Basic but very good ... Only moan is don't put a shelf directly over the sink ! Just remember if nobody is around press the buzzer outside :)

Do not rely on the friendly confirmation booking you receive from Christine saying she is 'Remaining at your disposal for any other information'. I am now battling to get the £120 taken out of my bank account back. I emailed a cancellation to her on 9th Aug (I was unable to visit on my planned check in date of 18th August) and the next email I received was on Aug 19th which was the automated 'no show' email from Booking.com taking £120 from my account, because I did not cancel through the Booking.com system but with the hotel direct. After repeated emails via Booking.com cust support for an explanation from the hotel as to WHY they did not reply to my 9th Aug cancellation and direct me to the correct cancel. procedure - still NOTHING.

Lovely helpful staff and breakfast was fine. Room was very small, but clean and tidy. Bed was small and the mattress quite hard. However the bonus was the location of the hotel was just what we needed after driving 200 miles. It's next to the sea, which on a summers evening was a joy. A good choice of restaurants to eat at along the beach. The parking was excellent for our motorcycle, we were able to lock it to steel posts.
Would we stay there again?...yes!

Very small but clean rooms with a tiny balkony, standing at the wash basin in the bathroom my back was still in the room. Do eat in one of the many beautiful restaurants in the area, give the hotel food a miss. No one speaks english but that did not bother me, gave me a chance to freshen up my french! If you can afford to stay somewhere else do so but if your not to fussy with your accommodation, go for it. The beach is a stones through away, literally, and all good restaurants are along the beach walk which starts at Le Transat Bleu. My best experience at the hotel was sitting on the balcony drinking my coffee and staring out over the English Channel. On a clear day you can see those famous white cliffs across the Channel.

We stayed here on a spontaneous trip to Dunkerque for one night. The owner came down to meet us after pressing the buzzer and we were pleasantly surprised at how easily he switched between French and fluent English. We were shown to a clean room which was perfect with a lovely view of the sea and a nice sun drenched balcony (I think we found the only sunny weekend in April).

We popped out to get something to eat and returned around 11pm and found that we couldn't get into our room, the lock simply wouldn't budge. We called for help and the owners both came down and attempted to get us into the room. They were very apologetic and explained that they had recently invested in some new locks and this was clearly an unexpected problem. They said they couldn't open the room without causing damage so we waited while the gentlemen climbed across the balcony's (risking life and limb) from the outside to retrieve our bags. They then moved us into another room which was perfectly acceptable and in keeping with the first one. They (the owners who are husband and wife) were very apologetic and did all they could to make our stay as comfortable as possible, allowing us a later check out time for the following morning.
On check out they told us again how sorry they were and that we wouldn't have to pay anything for our troubles. This was unbelievable and we were quite prepared to pay something at least as we enjoyed the stay and found the hotel to be perfect for our needs.
Their generosity and preparedness to accept responsibility was so refreshing and made us feel delighted as we drove away.
I hope these two succeed, such personal and pleasant personal service is rare these days and they made us feel very welcome and special as their guests. When things went wrong they acted swiftly and remained customer focused at all times - you can't ask for more than that.
I wish them well and thoroughly recommend them to you, this is a nice hotel in a nice location with brilliant hosts.

Room Tip: Pay the small supplement for the sea view

My family stayed for only 2 nights, but I have to say thanks to Vincent and Christine for a warm welcome. The Transat Bleu looks dated from the outside but the rooms are clean and comfortable. There are no lifts but as we were on the first floor it didn't matter. Its close to the beach and there are plenty of restaurants and bars nearby. I speak little French, to my shame and embarrassment, but thankfully Vincent and Christine speak excellent English. In fact, in the restaurants close by the waiters were willing to speak English and save my blushes when ordering a meal. In all we had 2 great days and I was impressed by the welcome and will use the hotel as a base for discovering the area on a future visit.

Room Tip: Use the Transat Bleu website and correspond with the owners
