Stayed at the Hirondelle twice in 2010 when using ferries to and from Dover and Dunkirk. On the first occasion arrived late at night, in the rain, never having driven around Dunkirk before managed to find the hotel without sat-nav.
Like all Logis de France it was a reliable bet, although my wife imagined some sort of port dump, (Not quite her words - think sailors and girls). The large 3rd floor room was simple, stylish with a sumptuous shower, no squeezing to fit here.
The second visit did not start so well, we booked online and arrived in the early evening as we'd booked for dinner in the hotel's small restaurant. The first room offered was much smaller and near to noisy air-conditioning fans. Asked for an alternative and were promptly put back to our booked room - the same as before. The restaurant was full of locals enjoying the seafood always a good sign.
Breakfast, with eggs boiled in the special machine, is straightforward continental.
It is a seven minute walk along one street to the sandy beach at Malo-les-Bains, the promenade there is lined with bars and restaurants. The only flaw is the industrial works at the far end of the beach.
