It was our first night staying in the hotel and rather that find a restaurant for the evening we choose the in house gourmet restaurant (they also have a bistro style eaterie).
Our booking was for 8:00 pm on a Thursday evening and we were the first people in the dining room and wondered if we had made a wrong choice because it was empty at that time. But the Lillois eat late and shortly after 9:00 it was almost full.
We each had different a la carte choices, all well judged and from superb ingredients.

We took the Menu Decouverte, along with the sommelier's wine choices, for a total price of over 100 Euro per person.

It wasn't worth it.

For that price, I expect to be wowed by gastronomy or service or both.

The service was attentive at first but the stretches between visits and courses grew longer and longer. The little touches that make for a five-star experience were missing. We were given a small basket of bread, for example, but I had to ask for bread plates, and we were never given butter knives. We were shown the four wines as we were being served, but there was no list to refer to or take with us--again, maybe a small touch, but it's the sort of small touch that earns a restaurant a five-star rating.

The food was disappointing. One entree was scallops, sliced thin and served with a roux on a scaldingly hot plate. I guess the plate cooked the scallops, but the roux was oily and there was no acid to offset its richness. The second entree was a salad of radishes served on a compacted bed of greens and a parsley puree. There was no dressing--no oil, no vinegar or lemon juice, no salt: in other words, utterly tasteless. The main course was fish with a nice buttery sauce with a slight lemon taste, well balanced. Unfortunately, the fish was overcooked. There were two dessert courses, which I consider odd for a five course menu--usually there are two main course, one fish and one fowl or meat. In addition, the "discovery" part of the menu refers to the fact that the servings are, except for the main course, sample sized.

There are plenty of other fine restaurants in Lille and the convenience and quality of this one, if you're staying in the hotel, doesn't justify the expense.

We dined there on 1 Jan, as there were no other restaurants open. We had the set menu at 52 euros. The meals was excellent and the selection and choice of wine, suggested by the sommelier, first class, if expensive.

The experience is quite formal, but lovely

The menu reads well and is classical french food with a few twists. The room is very interesting and one can imagine the old hospital beds that would have been there. However; it was more of a miss than a hit with us. There was a mix up with one of our main course orders so the meal was very slow and the flavours of both my starters and main course were OK but nothing special. This is a very pricey restaurant and it didn't live up to our expectations. The puddings were lovely and that nearly made up for it. Lille is full of sensational restaurants and we found we could get better food at a better price elsewhere.

We had the tasting menu for lunch and found it to be very good indeed. The service was prompt and the waiter informative.
