Solely based on good TA reviews, we took the half day tour: our guide was Kate. The trip to Pointe du Hoc, which could have been used to give historical background, was made in complete silence. Kate kept mentioning that we were in the oldest van and she couldn't talk because it was too noisy. Our group totalled eight: six of whom spoke English and two for whom French was their only language Thus, everything (such as it was) had to be repeated.

I (along with the other two couples in the group) was glad my husband was along because he is a WWII buff and filled us all in with the knowledge Kate didn't. Both couples mentioned this several times during the course of our half day. Although Kate was very nice, she lacked any enthusiasm and did not share any stories--just facts from a book.

Unless you can specifically ask for a newer van and a different tour guide, I would not recommend this tour.

“A fantastic experience.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 June 2014

We spent the entire day with Karen, a lovely woman who grew up in Normandy. Her knowledge was broad and deep, and even my husband who had visited previously and read a great deal about D-Day learned so much from her. Train strikes messes up our schedule, but she was wonderfully flexible, and made sure we were comfortable. We saw the American cemetery, Omaha Beach, Pointe du Hoc, Utah Beach, a German cemetery, Ste Mere Eglise (made famous in the movie The Longest Day) and so much more.

I highly recommend Normandy Sightseeing Tours and Karen. It was worth every penny!

“Excellent tour of Normandy beaches”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 June 2014

We took the full day tour of the Normandy beaches and battlefield areas the week before the 70th anniversary celebration. Our guide Kate Pape was wonderful, knowledgeable, and patient with us. We saw Utah and Omaha beaches, the American Cemetery, Pointe du Hoc, and Sainte Mere Eglise, with plenty of time at each stop, including a very pleasant beachside lunch stop. The information and history that Kate provided made the trip much better that had we been touring alone. I highly recommend this tour.

“So much to see”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 June 2014

Wow - so much to see and only one day to do it. Philipe picked up the 8 of us at our ship in LeHarve - In the next 8 hours he did an amazing job describing the history and the details that you have never heard about the days leading to June 6, June 6, and the days afterwards. Do NOT try to be your own guide (or your own brain surgeon or lawyer) because only someone who has dedicated their life to learning the history is capable. We saw many of the key sites - Bayeux, Pointe du Hoc, Omaha Beach and the American Cemetery. You can not image what happened on D Day without seeing the coast line, cliffs, bluffs, gun batteries, etc. The cemetery was very emotional and moving - everyone in our group left with tears in our eyes. My best advice is to devote as much time as possible to the Normandy coast and contract with a top notch tour operator like Normandy Sightseeing Tours and getting a first class guide like Philipe who had a personal connection to the battle. Be prepared for walking on dirt paths.

“Outstanding Tour of Normandy”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 June 2014

We coordinated a group of 23 people from a cruise ship in Le Havre for a 10 hour tour of Normandy. Normandy Sightseeing Tours was a pleasure to deal with to organize the tour. Our guide, David Basnier, was outstanding. He was extremely knowledgeable about every place we went during the day and could answer any question in great detail. He had a book with pictures to help illustrate his points. We decided on a picnic lunch so he took us to a place were we could buy things for lunch at a very reasonable price (about $5 per person). Everyone had a great time. We had enough time to stop at Bayeax on our way back, and David was able to get those who wanted into the Bayeux Tapestry ahead of a long line.
