“Outstanding All The Way!”

I booked the Villa Lara sight unseen over a year ago when it was still under construction. My group of 18 people trusted me and I placed my trust in the owner, Rima Hébert. She and her outstanding staff delivered as promised. We could not have been happier.

The Villa Lara is in central Bayeux and in walking distance to all sorts of dining options as well as the main tourist sights. The Bayeux Tapistry Museum is actually not more than 100 steps away from the front door. And the Cathedral is only a block away.

Beautiful, spacious rooms with fantastic bathrooms. Complimentary bottled water and wifi. Breakfast was plentiful with eggs cooked to order.

An outstanding find. All 18 in my group complimented me on this 4-star find. Rima and her staff deserve the compliments. Thanks for a wonderful three-night stay!

Room Tip: All rooms in this hotel are exceptional and very quiet. There is zero street noise.

I have just returned from an absolutely delightful 10 days at the Villa Lara hotel. Rima and Francois Hebert have created an absolute gem of a property in every sense of the word. They have matched the beauty, grace and charm of the hotel with superb staff and amenities that are the equal of the best hotels anywhere. The welcoming friendliness and helpfulness of Rima and Francois and every one of the members of their English speaking staff is rarely found in most hotels. The rooms are spacious, luxurious and contain everything necessary to cater to a guest’s personal needs whether it is the mini bar, the flat screen TVs, and undoubtedly the most comfortable bed I have slept in anywhere. Add to that the air conditioned room and fabrics and lighting that are so pleasant on the eyes that as a guest you feel right at home. The bathroom has an outstanding overhead rain shower and hand shower as well as a separate bathtub. The public areas of the hotel from the reception area, living room style seating area and bar and the breakfast room are all extremely pleasant to spend time in and to be attended to by the gracious staff. The fitness center and the private car park top off the property. Rima and Francois have left no detail unaddressed to make the Villa Lara a pearl of a hotel that will make guests want to return again and again. I have stayed in hotels all over Europe, in Asia and in the US and put the Villa Lara right up there with the best of the best!

The nicest (and most expensive) hotel we stayed in during our week in France. It is quite new (in 2012) and beautifully appointed. Our room was larger than average, with a huge bed and a purple velvet chaise longue at the foot. Heaven! The bathroom was also very smart with a lovely large shower. The decor was gorgeous.
Staff were very helpful and all spoke excellent English (they have a lot of American guests). We had breakfast here, which was expensive at 16 euros, but good quality with freshly prepared hot eggs if you wanted them.
The location is very convenient, just a few minutes walk from the main part of town where there is a great selection of restaurants, and very close to the Tapestry exhibition.
I would be very happy to stay here again but would need to save up first!

We landed in Paris and drove directly to Bayeux. We chose Villa Lara due to the proximity to the D Day Beaches and its reviews. The hotel is new, comfortable and in an excellent area. The rooms were slightly larger than most European rooms and very clean. The hotel staff was excellent, spoke perfect English and very accomodating. I highly recommend Villa Lara

We could not have asked for a more better experience during our stay at the Villa Lara Hotel. From the welcoming, gracious and helpful staff to the wonderful and comfortable rooms, this hotel was a great respite from all our touring of Normandy. We were sad to leave the Villa Lara and its comfortable beds, spacious bathrooms and wonderful breakfast. Would recommend this hotel over and over again!!!

We stayed at the Villa Lara for 4 nights in May and had a fabulous experience. There's not a better located hotel in Bayeaux (except its sister hotel, The Churchill) and the hotel is new, with great amenities. We tried to stay another night, but the hotel was full. The owner and the staff went out of their way to find us accommodations elsewhere, and we ended up in Honfleur for one unexpected night which rounded out our trip. They couldn't have been more helpful and friendly. The accommodations are very nice, in part because the hotel is new. The price is a bit high, but as there is no comparable hotel in Bayeux we found that the value was good. I would highly recommend this hotel.

I visited Europe for the first time with my mother, aunt and sister in April 2012. After spending a few days in Paris we decided to rent a car and drive through the country side to see Normandy. We spent two nights in the VIlla Lara Hotel and could not have had a better experience. The decor is absolutely charming. Comfortable beds, a large and beautiful bathroom, fresh linens. When deciding to stay here, I highly recommend asking about their breakfast package. Eggs are prepared fresh right in front of you; between the pastries, baguettes, fresh fruit and home-made jams, it was by far our favorite meal we had while in Bayeux. The best part of our experience at the Villa Lara Hotel was their friendly personal. They made you feel right at home the entire stay and gracefully accommodated all request.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
The Villa Lara is a small privately owned luxury boutique hotel with a chic but casual atmosphere in the historic center of Bayeux, along the Aure River in a very quiet square facing the 11th century majestic cathedral and just next door to the famous Bayeux Tapestry. Our 28 rooms are appointed in an elegant French style with 8 different color schemes. All the furniture is made by Moissonnier, a well-known French company founded in 1885. Its cabinetmaking skills have been passed down generations, bringing the past to life with light touches, suggesting without imposing, breathing new life into traditions to make the present feel magical again, and creating jewelry for the hotel while cultivating an offbeat style-such is the spirit of Moissonnier today. All the rooms are accessible by lift and equipped with air conditioning, a minibar, large flat-screen TV and safe. The marbled bathrooms have a walk-in shower and also a separate bathtub in most of the rooms. The rooms range from 30 to 50 square meters with a view on the Bayeux Cathedral. Beds are minimum 1.80 x 2 meters and in most of the rooms can be up to 2 x 2 meters. Wireless high speed internet access is free throughout the hotel, which features a cozy bar/lounge area with a fireplace and a library, a marbled lobby, and a breakfast room set in a traditional French style where the breakfast is prepared and served in front of the guest. Our complimentary fitness center is available 24/7 and equipment includes a treadmill, bicycle, and strength training machines. A private carpark is available with 15 spots and a drop-off space for buses. Although we meet the official government criteria of a 5-star property, we do not have a restaurant, a spa, and a formal bellman at the front door. We do not want to mislead our future guests who attribute these specific amenities to their image of a 5-star property, although we do of course provide porterage and turn down. And, as always, our commitment to 5-star service is at the forefront of our day-to-day operations. ... more   less
