“Highlight of our trip!”
Reviewed 25 June 2014

We ended a two week trip in France by staying for three days in Bayeux at the Villa Lara Hotel. This was by far the highlight of the trip! The location is superb for visiting the WWII beaches and the Bayeux Tapestry. We were in the heart of the charming town with a view of the cathedral which is beautifully lit at night. Fabulous room with comfortable bed and wonderfully appointed bathroom. The staff was very helpful and Sebastian made a great manhattan for my husband! The decor is charming, the street is quiet....I could go on and on! You will love staying here!

We have stayed at the Villa Lara twice now and are plannning a third visit in August 2014. Without question it is as elegant hotel you will find anywhere. From a warm greeting to the soap dishes in the bathrooms, it is perfect in every respect. A workout room, elevator, free Wi-Fi, ice (unheard of) on every floor, rooms are impeccable. The owners are personally there to meet your every needs. The staff is outstanding. Breakfast is outstanding. I cannot say enough about the hotel. Excellent is not nearly enough.

Room Tip: Any room is fantastic!

Great little hotel with central location. Only steps away from the Place de Quebec where most of the D-Day tour operators pick up. Just a short walk from the Bayeux Tapestry and Bayeux Cathedral and the many fine dining options in Bayeux, as well as the train station. Staff was professional, courteous and extremely helpful with great recommendations. Breakfast made for a perfect start every day! Nice intimate bar for guests. The perfect place to stay in Bayeux and the absolute best base for a D-Day tour of the Normandy beaches and battle sites.

Stayed here based on all the positive reviews and they are all correct. Great location steps from the tapestry and the cathedral, easy base to explore Normandy. The rooms are well appointed, quiet with comfortable beds and there is a secured car park. The staffs are friendly and helpful, with good info and assistance before arrival and during our stay. The breakfast is very good. The rate is high but would definitely recommend it to my friends.

My husband and I stayed here for two nights on a "getaway" from Paris and to tour the WWII sites in the region. The hotel is in a serene and beautiful location, walking distance from all the sites in Bayeux--the Tapestry, the Cathedral and the town center. Our room was a suite overlooking the river, the Cathedral in the background, and a nice park--it had a separate sitting room with floor to ceiling windows which was great to have morning coffee and relax. The staff was really nice and recommended restaurants that were delicious and reasonable. It is also walking distance to the train station to catch the train to/from Paris. You will love staying in this place!

Room Tip: Upgrade to a suite. We did and we were glad we did!

Before you arrive at this delightful hotel ask for detailed directions. Our sat nav completely gave up. We circled the charming Bayeux streets four times before finding the tiny road leading to the hotel which is found over a narrow bridge. It is less than 3 minutes from the hotel to the famous tapestry. The hotel has lovely comfortable rooms and even more comfortable beds. Complimentary soft drinks are available in the rooms. The staff are bilingual and very helpful. There are a couple of very good restaurants within a short walking distance. The breakfast at the hotel is excellent serving hot food as well as cold together with wonderful bread.

My family (six of us,including my 83 year old Father) Stayed here for three nights in the middle of April and just loved this place. It was right in the heart of Bayeux. Everything was first class. The breakfast was amazing! The staff was excellent and saw to it that all our needs were meet.
We spent a week in France, three nights in Paris and three nights in Bayeux. This was by far the best part of our trip. This place was highly recommended by our tour guide, Paul Woodadge, D-Day Historian. All well worth the price.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
The Villa Lara is a small privately owned luxury boutique hotel with a chic but casual atmosphere in the historic center of Bayeux, along the Aure River in a very quiet square facing the 11th century majestic cathedral and just next door to the famous Bayeux Tapestry. Our 28 rooms are appointed in an elegant French style with 8 different color schemes. All the furniture is made by Moissonnier, a well-known French company founded in 1885. Its cabinetmaking skills have been passed down generations, bringing the past to life with light touches, suggesting without imposing, breathing new life into traditions to make the present feel magical again, and creating jewelry for the hotel while cultivating an offbeat style-such is the spirit of Moissonnier today. All the rooms are accessible by lift and equipped with air conditioning, a minibar, large flat-screen TV and safe. The marbled bathrooms have a walk-in shower and also a separate bathtub in most of the rooms. The rooms range from 30 to 50 square meters with a view on the Bayeux Cathedral. Beds are minimum 1.80 x 2 meters and in most of the rooms can be up to 2 x 2 meters. Wireless high speed internet access is free throughout the hotel, which features a cozy bar/lounge area with a fireplace and a library, a marbled lobby, and a breakfast room set in a traditional French style where the breakfast is prepared and served in front of the guest. Our complimentary fitness center is available 24/7 and equipment includes a treadmill, bicycle, and strength training machines. A private carpark is available with 15 spots and a drop-off space for buses. Although we meet the official government criteria of a 5-star property, we do not have a restaurant, a spa, and a formal bellman at the front door. We do not want to mislead our future guests who attribute these specific amenities to their image of a 5-star property, although we do of course provide porterage and turn down. And, as always, our commitment to 5-star service is at the forefront of our day-to-day operations. ... more   less
