“Lovely Hotel in Bayeux”

Stayed with my wife for three nights whilst doing a D day tour. The hotel is excellent and in a great position . The reception staff are friendly and extremely helpful and booked for us at three great restaurants to eat at. They also made a hair appointment for my wife with a good hairdresser as we had been travelling for an extended time ! The room was large , modern. air conditioned and very chic and well appointed. Our room had a beautiful view of the Cathedral. The bathrooms was large and had a separate shower to the bath . The buffet breakfast was good.
I would with out hesitation recommend this hotel !

Villa Lara Hotel is very well decorated with beautiful furnishings. The staff does a great job as well. We stayed two nights there in a room that had a view of the cathedral that lights up in colors at night. It is indeed a special spot.
Breakfast was very good. I was under the impression that it was included but it was not. It was 20.00 pounds a person. So beware don't just go in for coffee and a piece of toast. But if you want a good full breakfast it was good.
I would choose to stay here again. Loved it!

We stayed for four nights recently as we toured the D Day battlefields. I would echo others comments; friendly professional staff, large well appointed rooms, excellent breakfast buffet and very convenient location to restaurants, shops, the Tapestry and the Cathedral. A very charming Normandy town. A few rooms have balconies and ours had a great view of the Cathedral at night.

For anyone planning a trip to the Normandy Beaches, Bayeux is a great place to stay. Villa Lara is right off the main avenue, so you have the convenience of being close to the restaurants and shops without being on the main road. Staff are friendly and they offer nice suggestions for great eateries. Rooms are in excellent condition with large bathrooms - not typical of European hotels. Also, the Normandy tour meeting spot is literally right across the street. No restaurant on site, but they do a very nice breakfast - full assortment of breads and pastries, cheeses, fruit/yogurt and eggs made to order.

We loved their breakfast jams (made locally) and the Murano orange juice glasses so much that we bought several to take back home to the states.

Highly recommended for those looking for a nicer than European standard hotel.

Me, my mom, and sister stayed in this hotel on a recent trip to Bayeux. It was a. Really nice hotel and very conveniently located to the restaurants and shops in the area. The only thing that was probably a little misleading is that every room has sweeping views of the Bayeux cathedral. There were trees in the way, and you could only see maybe the very top of it. Not a big deal though because it was a very close walk. The rooms were very spacious and clean. The breakfast for around 20€ for what it was seemed a little steep so we opted not to have it, so I can't say how it is. But the hotel has a comfortable sitting area/bar in the lobby and outside as well. I would stay at this hotel again if in the area

After a week in Paris, my friend and I weren't expecting this calibre of hotel in a small town in Normandy. The front desk staff is outstanding--greeted by name at every opportunity, offered suggestions, asked up about our day upon return. Breakfast was lovely, the hotel bar is very relaxing and comfy after a day of D-Day sightseeing. We had a stunning room, with large windows that opened up onto the square. Modern but tasteful decor, well appointed bathroom. We had laundry service while we were there and it was extremely fast. For WWII enthusiasts, the Overloard tours meets right outside the front doors in the morning, which was perfect for us. Lots of restaurants and shops nearby, walkable to the Bayeux tapestry.

I've been back to Normandy since and I always, ALWAYS tell people that when going to Normandy, Bayeux is the best town as your home base and the Villa Lara is the best hotel in Bayeux. Can not recommend more highly.

Had no idea how nice it would be - the pictures do not do this justice! We neede a room with a cot for my step-daughter and it was all set up for us. Huge shower, tub, robes, slippers, etc. It was beyond what we expected in the small town. Great walking distance and secured parking. Would love to stay here again sometime! Bed was the best!

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
The Villa Lara is a small privately owned luxury boutique hotel with a chic but casual atmosphere in the historic center of Bayeux, along the Aure River in a very quiet square facing the 11th century majestic cathedral and just next door to the famous Bayeux Tapestry. Our 28 rooms are appointed in an elegant French style with 8 different color schemes. All the furniture is made by Moissonnier, a well-known French company founded in 1885. Its cabinetmaking skills have been passed down generations, bringing the past to life with light touches, suggesting without imposing, breathing new life into traditions to make the present feel magical again, and creating jewelry for the hotel while cultivating an offbeat style-such is the spirit of Moissonnier today. All the rooms are accessible by lift and equipped with air conditioning, a minibar, large flat-screen TV and safe. The marbled bathrooms have a walk-in shower and also a separate bathtub in most of the rooms. The rooms range from 30 to 50 square meters with a view on the Bayeux Cathedral. Beds are minimum 1.80 x 2 meters and in most of the rooms can be up to 2 x 2 meters. Wireless high speed internet access is free throughout the hotel, which features a cozy bar/lounge area with a fireplace and a library, a marbled lobby, and a breakfast room set in a traditional French style where the breakfast is prepared and served in front of the guest. Our complimentary fitness center is available 24/7 and equipment includes a treadmill, bicycle, and strength training machines. A private carpark is available with 15 spots and a drop-off space for buses. Although we meet the official government criteria of a 5-star property, we do not have a restaurant, a spa, and a formal bellman at the front door. We do not want to mislead our future guests who attribute these specific amenities to their image of a 5-star property, although we do of course provide porterage and turn down. And, as always, our commitment to 5-star service is at the forefront of our day-to-day operations. ... more   less
