Owner description: Situated near the British Military Cemetery of Bayeux, the Memorial Museum of the Battle of Normandy narrates the battles which took place in Normandy after the D-Day landings, between 7th June and 29th August 1944. The collections of military equipment, the diorama and the archival films allow the visitor to grasp the enormous effort made during this decisive battle in order to restore peace in Europe.

After being in France for a week, the sun came out the day we were here. It was spectacular. Walk through the museum first to get a timeline of the events that built up to 6-6-44. The film clip of letters to home bring life to the people who died that day. Seeing the names and where the soldiers were from hit home when you see your state listed. The rows and rows of brilliant white crosses that overlook the beautiful beach and blue water bring a peaceful feeling of serenity. At 5:00, they take the flag down for the day and be ready to be taken by the sound of Taps being played. This was on my bucket list -- it was amazing.

This museum was a comprehensive and chronological introduction to the Battle of Normandy. The progression through a series of illustrated maps, equipment, models and 3D models was extremely well designed. The exhibit ended with an impressive collection of vehicles and equipment. The only drawback was the ban on taking photos inside the museum, which was disappointing (a bit unusual as this was not the case in most other facilities).

A very comprehensive presentation of the whole 3 month period after D Day, probably my favourite museum in the area.

Very well presented museam, interesting well laid out exhibits all very thought provoking. 1 to 2 hours for those with a big interest but others may find and hour more than enough. I was one of the interested.

This museum provides a well balanced and well presented history of WWII. We were not overwhelmed by detail. Exhibits were well organized and there was a good "flow" through the facility. It is located in Bayeux and is an easy walk from the central part of the City.
