A moving and informative museum. Films, stories of people who lived through the events, newspaper reports, photographs - everything in its place to tell the story of the 2nd world war and what led to it. At times I had to fight back the tears.

This is an absolute MUST see place. Beautifully put together this museum is pure class and a fitting memorial to those who fought for freedom.

Parking is easy and even though it's expensive to get it it really is worth it. I went first with my dad who was dropped into Caen by parachute on D.Day 1944. They let veterans go in free (Quite rightly!!!)

You will be moved to tears as you relive all that took place in the dark days of the war. You will be ashamed at the depths mankind can sink to but also be inspired at the bravery of those who fought for freedom and justice!

If you are in Caen do NOT miss a visit here.

Trust me!

The Memorial of Caen is a great tribute that attempts to explain the events that led to WWII. It traces events in Europe beginning in the early 20th Century through to the end of the war. The museam is a living call for all peoples of the war to live in peace. The exhibits are well done and there is so much information presented you can't take it all in in one visit. Highly recommend a visti to this well planned museum.

Visited on Good Friday -busy lots of school groups.
Quite a lot of museum dedicated to German occupation and the pre-war days in France.
I felt it was a bit "light" on actual war coverage. Some interesting short films and news snippets from the day with seating available.
Best was the Bunker - worth going down to to view. Not many vehicles/aircraft on display.
Cafeteria OK & parking -with overflow parking in camper van area.

What a great place, totally spoilt by a group of older students (possibly equivalent of Sixth Form) from France. Their behaviour was appalling despite the best efforts of the staff - little or no respect. Some were sitting on information desks and didn't even move for some elderly American visitors just wanting to read info on what they were viewing.
Don't let this put you off, I have been here before and wasn't like this. However, staff in charge of young visitors should be more in control than these were - call yourselves professionals - I don't think so. Would've been better if some were forcibly removed to send the message to the rest.
