It's an Ibis. The new beds are very nice, not sure what they have changed but I slept very well.
The location is right in town with bars and restraints all around.
They have a small car park, for which they charge, but it saves fighting for a spot on the street and is much more secure.
I just like the place, it's an Ibis but it wins me back time again. See you in another year.

This is the 3rd or 4th occasion that I've stayed in the Ibis, Caen. For those having just cycled from Ouistreham along the Caen Canal, it's slap bang at the end of it - at the Port de Plaisance. It’s also extremely convenient for Centre Ville and is a quick chomp away from Rue du Vaugeax - the restaurant quarter.

Just a trebuchet chuck away is Le Chateau de Caen: William the B*st*rd’s seat from whence he set his yeux on Angleterre, thereafter calling himself William the Conqueror.

I'm embarrassed enough to admit that my French isn’t up to much, and know enough to explain in French that my French isn't up to much. If the reply is anything less than orthodox, then franchement, je suis enculée. But, no matter. The staff seem well versed in English, and were almost amused when I asked whether they could speak it. Probably like asking a pilot whether he can fly. They were polite and helpful.

As with all Ibis hotels, the standard doubles are Spartan and the small towels un peu rêches. But that’s the Ibis brand. It’s a budget hotel that is consistent in its offering no matter where you are; clean, comfortable, reasonably priced, and you know what to expect .

Quite often Ibis and the more upmarket Mercure hotels are part of the same complex – as in Port de Plaisance. Here it means that Mecure guests use the Ibis dining/breakfast room, and the Ibis guests get to drink in Mercure’s bar. Seems the right sort of way around to me. Breakfast was self-serve continental: acceptable and ample.

Parking is under the hotel, and cyclists do not pay for the privilege. Do not confuse it with Ibis Caen Centre Paul Doumer. They are not la même.

Room Tip: If you're on the first floor, try to avoid rooms at the rear (room 180ish). A roof terrace is r...

Arrived here at the end of July after a long drive, it was very warm. The hotel is city centre so within walking distance of anything you want to see. The staff were friendly when I booked in but I forgot to ask one important question. ....air conditioning! The room was small and faced to the back looking over a small garden but even with the windows open was hot and stuffy. It was impossible to sleep. If your booking this hotel make sure you have air con if it's available!
