Clean and confortable place, at 15-minute walk from the castle. The bathroom is a bit small, but appart from that, the place does it's job. There is also a parking accommodating a few cars, without an extra charge, which was nice. From there, it's a 10-15 drive to the Memorial de Caen. In all, good value for money for a confortable room close to the city centre.

Stayed 2 nights in this hotel in April 2012. To me, the best thing about it is it's proximity to the train station and at the same time you don't get the noise from it. Ideal hotel if you have several pieces of luggage to lug to and from the station. And good too if you don't want to have to wake up earlier to catch a tram or bus to the train station. The tram stop is about 60m from the hotel.

While the staff are friendly, the service was average. Rooms, though clean, were rather basic. There was a coffee machine in the room which looked to be untouched for a long while. Small TV and reception on most channels were not good.

Breakfast was quite ok but nothing to shout about. Wifi available in room.

We took the Ferry from Portsmouth and we arrived at the train station in Caen at 8 AM. The hotel was in walking distance to the train station. The front desk staff did not speak any English. So, we asked to check into our room early. They got a room ready in one hour. The room was very big and clean. It also has a hair dryer. It was a short walking distance to Central Caen. We took a 1/2 tour of the DDAY Beacher by Normandy Panorama. It was awesome!!

We spent 5 nights at the Hotel de France in Caen with the the purpose of the visit to experience the D Day landing beaches and a visit to the Bayeaux Tapestry. The Hotel was ideal for our needs, close to the station and a short walk into the centre of Caen with good value eating places within easy reach. The room was comfortable ( comfort room) with good bathroom & plenty of fresh towels. The staff were friendly and helpful. We did not have breakfast but just went along the road (towards the station) to a very nice cafe.I would use Caen as a base to visit other areas in Normandy.Bayeaux was 20 mins on the train. The tapestry is a 'must see'.The other highlight was a visit to the Memorial de Caen Museum followed by an excellant tour of the beaches ( booked at the Tourist Information office)

We stayed here one night to visit the D-Day Beaches and Caen Memorial. Our room was moderately sized by US standards (large by French standards) and very clean and comfortable. The front desk was staffed 24 hrs/day and very friendly but didn't always speak English. Main area attractions were too far to walk to from this hotel (but we had a car).
