We stumbled into this our first day in Caen, expecting at best a touristy-trap restaurant and finding instead a terrific dining experience--superb oyster stew with julienned fresh vegetables, savory sweetbreads in a lovely sauce, serene setting, acceptable service. The proprietor at the bed-and-breakfast later was happy that we'd lucked into finding it--he's got a good eye on the local food scene and also thinks it's excellent.

Cute and cosy place, very nice atmosphere, attentive staff, the food is delicious. The fish was awesome! And in the evening when you come out - it's a superb view from the castle!

SItuated in the castle grounds the restaurant looks the part but that is about all one can say about it. The waiting staff are clearly inexperienced and not too interested in their clients. The menu looks ok but the food is poor, served on cold plates. The meat was tough and the bread rolls rock hard.
I could go on but all to say avoid at all costs. There are plenty of better restaurants in Caen.

After a long day of seeing D-Day sites and museums, we sat down to eat here. It's located inside the Caen Museum of Fine Arts, and rightfully deserves its Michelin Bib Gourmand rating!

First off, what first rate restaurant is located inside a museum? This was definitely a first. Still, the appetizer was a very good terrine, and I had the best fish for entrees. It also was the first restaurant in which the waiters didn't even bother to ask whether we wanted wine!

Picture taking at the Chateau du Ducal just outside is a perfect way to wind down the day (after all the other attractions are closed), after which you can hop on over to this gem of a restaurant!

Very popular with visiting coach parties so booking or early arrival essential at lunch time. Reception and service were not very good but the cuisine is excellent and very good value. The best lunch we had in a week of touring Normandy
