Very, very helpful staff. Not english spoken all time , but most of the time and it only added a personal touch because the staff really tried to help out. Rooms small but nice, small shower for a big person. A hairdryer would have been nice. Mind you, I never asked the staff, they might have had a solution. The room was quiet, but that might depend of the time of the year. Both rooms and hotel were personal and if I go back to Cherbourg that´s the hotel I´ll book. I have stayed one night in another hotel in Cherbourg, more spacious in every way, but that is not the one I would like to return to.

This is a really nice and pleasent hotel, its not the Ritz, but the price reflects this. If you want a clean room in a great location in Cherbourg book this hotel. The owner is VERY helpful and took the time to respond to my questions ahead of the trip in a very timely manner. We really enjoyed our stay.

Excellent little hotel in every way!! Handy for the ferry ports and routes in and out of town. Convenient for shops and restaurants in the town centre.

Warm welcome from the desk staff and an extremely big room for a budget hotel. Nicely decorated with a separate shower and toilet rooms - a nice and unusual facility.

Can´t praise it highly enough and fully recommend.

We have stayed at the Beausejour at least twice a year for the past four or five years. It's an ideal base for exploring the town and convenient if you're arriving at 10pm on the late ferry from Poole!
Beausejour has been under new ownership (Mathieu Lecaillon and his wife) for the last couple of years and within the last year all the rooms have been redecorated with a bright, imaginative nautical theme and no two rooms are alike.
As with many old hotels in France, the rooms are only just about adequate in size because, to be en suite, bathrooms have had to be built in cupboards. Having said that the beds are comfortable and the rooms clean.
M Lecaillon speaks limited English, although I've noticed quite an improvement recently.
Parking outside the hotel is virtually impossible and the narrow street is one-way. You can park in the town hall square, about a two-minute walk away and if you feed the meter the night before it won't start charging you until the following morning. It's also quite cheap.
Free parking is available by the dry dock, on the right as you approach the statue of Napoleon, diagonally oppisite the town hall square (50 metres).
On the edge of the square is a cheap and cheerful restaurant, Le Commerce, which does good quality "fastish" food and is open until very late and other restaurants too. There is also a micro-brewery and bar called Eldorado (try the Ambre!).
All-in-all a good place to stay

Stayed with my son for 5 nights in this hotel in September. Room spotless and beds comfortable.
Breakfast ok for the price.
The manager, though not very talkative, is friendly and helpfull whenever you need him.
In general, we enjoyed our stay and we found that quality/price is more than fair.

Used as a stopover on a cycle tour, having arrived on the ferry at 9:30pm we wanted somewhere nice and close to the ferry port, which this was.

Upon seeing the hotel location (narrow terraced street) we were doubtful as to whether they could store our bikes for us, but the gentleman on reception led us down the street to a garage where we could safely keep them for the night.

Room was taller than it was wide and nothing special, breakfast wasn't worth bothering with but all the basics were there, the room was clean, and it was good value and a decent enough stopover. There are plenty of restaurants around and open late, so you can still have somewhere to eat if you get in on a late ferry.

  • Liked — close to the ferry port
  • Disliked — small room
  • Tips/Secrets — they can provide bicycle storage if you ask

We selected this hotel on the basis of reviews here and availability as a stopover between an evening Ferry arrival and onward travel further south the following day.
Whilst it was quite basic and the decor a little "tired" (that bizarre 80's carpet-effect-wallpaper), the family suite was exactly what we needed, comprising a main room with a double bed single bed and TV, an adjoining area with another double bed, and a tiny bathroom with toilet, washbasin and shower. The room, bedsheets and bathroom were all clean. The staff were pleasant and helpful. Breakfast was a minimal continental-style juice/coffee/croissant/roll combination (optional extra cost).
I initially booked through venere(-) a couple of months in advance and obtained confirmation immediately but a couple of weeks later I telephoned the hotel to double-check, and they had never heard of me. I speak poor French and the concierge spoke reasonable English so communication was not a problem, and we were able to make our booking after all! The price was 52EUR for 2 adults + 2 children, breakfast was 20EUR extra.
Use maps.google.com to get a map and check the one-way system, the hotel is signposted once you get in to the Cherbourg old town area and parking on the street outside is not a problem. There are plenty of reasonable restaurants nearby for an evening meal, and the ferry port is close by also.
