On the plus side, the water lily pond is absolutely magnificent, and it was well worth the trip for this alone. But the rest of the gardens, while not a disappointment, were most definitely in need of some weeding, trimming and general tidy up. With the number of people who visit daily, I was quite surprised not to see staff tending the garden. As the day was a scorcher, we also noticed the heat from the concrete paths. What a pity the paths could not be kept as gravel or dirt. Nevertheless, a great trip. We took the train from Paris at 1220pm, and returned at 450pm from Vernon. Using the bus transfer ( both the bus drivers were delightful) this allowed plenty of time to view the house and gardens, and to get some baguettes in Vernon and enjoy a local lunch. With some extra gardening, this really should be 5 stars, but the mess let it down.

The Monet House and particularly the Gardens are well worth a side trip from Paris. We were there in July and the gardens were lovely. Not overly crowded as it was a cloudy day. My travelling companions took hundreds of photos. Of course the lily pond is the main attraction but it's all just lovely. Wish I'd had time to visit the local museum and snoop around town, but was on a bus tour. Great follow-up to visits at L'Orangerie, Musee d'Orsay and Musee Marmottan in Paris.

These gardens are truly magnificent. Expect lots of people and busloads of tour groups, but don't let that put you off as there are some quiet spots in the garden away from the main views of the bridge and pond. When we travelled the peonies were out and were beautiful. The gardens are a profusion of colour. The house is interesting too. Well worth a visit and yes, a good gift shop too :) We took the train in both directions. We missed the train on the return as we were relaxing in a café so took the opportunity to walk around the town of Giverney which was lovely, so if you have the time, take the opportunity to do this. There are nice cafes in the town and a beautiful old church.

Beautiful gardens; interesting house, great gift shop. Suggest you get there at least 10-15 minutes before opening in order to see at least some of it without an overwhelming crowd in your way. Go to the water garden first as this gets the busiest, the fastest. Flowers are fabulous in late May/early June. Order your tickets online before you go--it's quick, easy and no hassels. Then, when you get there--go right in. I love impressionist art and found the gift shop to be wonderful with Monet inspired umbrellas, scarves, compacts, etc. Loved it!

A most wonderful experience. Love the sounds, flowers, food, and the entire venue. We arrived in LeHarve on a cruise. All the land excursions were booked, and expensive so we got ourselves to Vernon via the train (stop in Rouen), and then onto Giverny via taxi. Made it back to the dock with 30 minutes to spare due to train problems in Rouen. Great adventure. My wife is an artist and this was a must do. Would love to go back and spend several days just soaking in the place.
