Marie et Gilbert Therin B&B

What a great B&B – we really enjoyed it even though it was a bad day to visit Monet’s gardens but that was no fault of the B&B.

There had been an accident on the motorway coming from the Netherlands which meant our expected arrival at about two in the afternoon turned out to be after five and too late to visit the gardens which was the main reason for coming. We had arranged tickets through Marie and Gilbert but we couldn’t use them as we had to leave first thing next morning before the gardens opened.

Gilbert was a fine host as Marie was away for a few days – the B&B is beautifully appointed with everything we needed after a long day. We walked thru the village and had dinner at one of the hotels. Sadly we walked past Monet’s gardens, about five minutes from the B&B on the same road. Next morning Gilbert put on a breakfast that was outstanding, he did very well by himself.

Reluctantly we left Giverny with tentative plans to return if we could after we had finished in the Loire Valley. Gilbert insisted that if we made it back to call in and say hello to Marie. We did make it back to visit Monet’s gardens and called in to the B&B and were welcomed with open arms by Gilbert and met the lovely Marie.

We wished we had more time to enjoy Giverny and its surrounds maybe next time – as far as B&B rate, this is one of the best – I’d recommend it to anyone.

We had delightful time, our hosts Marie & Gilbert were very helpful and accommodating. The room had all the comforts of home and more. The break fast was more than we could eat, excellent home made jams and hot chocolate to die for. We will be back highly recommended.

Overall we think it would be difficult to find a chamber d'hote better than this. Marie and Gilbert are such lovely hosts and the room with its' own entrance is so tastefully decorated. Breakfast is copious with various home made conserves, croissant, bread, cheese, yoghurt, fruit, cereal - just superb. We keep going back because of Marie and Gilbert. They are such lovely people. Monet's gardens are always worth another visit as they are ever changing throughout the year.
Marie and Gilbert, you are very special people.

We regretted that we were able to stay at the lovely home of Marie and Gilbert only one night! Our charming room was decorated by Marie in such fine taste. In addition to being very attractive, It was cozy and comfortable. The separate entrance was convenient and the large window looked out on their beautifully landscaped back yard. It was only a 10-minute walk from Monet's Home & Garden, and tickets are available from Marie to avoid standing in line at the ticket window. We thoroughly enjoyed the delicious expanded continental breakfast (which included freshly baked croissants) which Marie served to us in her beautiful sunny dining room. However, it was the host and hostess who made this B&B truly special and memorable. Their warmth, graciousness, and kindness during our visit were outstanding. The "frosting on the cake" took place later, though. As I said goodbye to Marie, I mentioned that I had lost that my favorite sun glasses during our visit to Giverny. When we arrived home in the USA the next day, there was an e-mail from Marie letting me know that she had found my sun glasses in the room where we had slept and had mailed them to me. My glasses arrived at my home a week later, very carefully packaged and in a new glass case, complete with an eye glass cleaning cloth. What rare and impressive kindness and hospitality!!

My wife and myself stayed just one night at this B&B, and we cannot recommend this accommodation highly enough - everything that has been said in previous TripAdvisor reviews is perfectly true.

It is situated in the same road as Monet’s Garden, which is just a 10 minute walk away. The whole village of Giverny is wonderful, especially in the evening when all the day visitors have departed.

The owners, Marie and Gilbert, were helpful in every way. Our room was immaculate and couldn't be faulted. The room, the bedding and the towels were spotlessly clean, and there was plenty of hot water for showers. A nice touch was the fresh flowers in both the bedroom and the bathroom.

The breakfast was superb with a choice of cereals, fruit juice, yoghurt, bread, croissants and a selection of cheeses and home-made jams. The house itself is decorated and maintained to a very high standard, with many interesting artefacts on display.

We will certainly stay there again when we are next in the area.

We stayed for 3 nights with Marie and Gilbert - it wasn't enough! Giverny is a beautiful village but it was staying in this B&B that made it for us. As other reviewers say, they are the perfect hosts: welcoming and helpful. Marie's breakfasts were delicious with home made jams, a variety of cheeses, fresh bread and croissants served in their delightful sitting/dining room. A beautiful house but also very homely. It was lovely to talk with Marie at breakfast time and gave us a chance to practise our French, which isn't brilliant but she was very patient! They told us about walks up in the hills behind the village and gave recommendations of where to visit apart from Monet's garden. One evening we asked if it would be alright if we bought our own food to eat, which saved some money but it also gave us a chance to sample local charcuteries in Vernon. They were fine with this and even provided us with some china plates to use instead of our plastic picnic ones - a nice touch - and we had a feast in their garden. I could say more but it would only be repeating what other satisfied guests have said. Giverny is lovely, and Monet's garden gorgeous, but in the day time it is obviously full of tourists. Staying in the village itself, and in such lovely surroundings, gave us a taste of what it might have been like to live there when Monet was alive. Thank you for having us Marie and Gilbert.
