Stayed with partner and parents. As other reviewers have said, the hotel is pleasant but a little tired. But clean overall.

The nasty surprise was next morning when we decided to take breakfast. Signs all over the reception / lounge area advertise €8 breakfast. It was a good breakfast ... but I was billed €64 for 4 people. The receptionist explained that €8 was for croissant & coffee but we had the buffet. When I asked about the advertising on the tables, she moved a LARGE and very conveniently-placed bouquet of flowers on the reception desk, and there behind it was the buffet breakfast price.
I then asked about the Accor deal of free breakfast for OAPs (parents in late 70s). She told me that since we had booked with booking.com we could not get this deal.
BEWARE.
If we had paid the hotel rate of €107 per room (instead of €89 booking.com rate) we would have had free breakfast. So effectively, booking through booking.com or any other non-Accor website means you get a worse deal. Would booking.com please be aware that Mercure Lisieux does not seem to want their bookings.

It might have been easier to take if the receptionist's attitude was not so arrogant. She didnt have any interest in the customer. When I came to ask (during that breakfast) for normal tea (they have flavoured teas, Earl Grey etc but no normal tea), she was in conversation with the house manager which continued for over a minute although I was standing at her desk waiting for her.
I get the impression that this hotel would like guests to go away and let the staff get on with other things.

It was actually a good breakfast, if it was €32 for four. At €64 for four, it was robbery.
I got the impression that the flowers were deliberately placed to hide the prices, because when I asked for the manager he expressed no surprise whatsoever, and when I pointed out the flowers, he didnt even bother to move them.

Although the hotel was fine, this unpleasant experience ruined it, and there are plenty of other hotels in Lisieux.

On arrival we were greeted by a lovely young lady from Kent on reception.

This in fact made us stay here as at €91 we though that this was a bit expensive for a bed for the night. My key card didn't work and it took several attempts.

We settled down to a few drinks and decided we would like some food. At 9.55pm we were told the restaurant closed at 10pm and the best they could do was some bread and cheese. Two small pieces of cheese and a roll €6. €6.90 per large beer, this was getting an expensive room for the night.

Breakfast was also rather a disappointment. €16 for cheese, bread, yogurt and coffee. No option of warm food.

Worth a stay? not convinced I would go back, very expensive travel lodge. Best thing there was the Lady formally from Kent who was fantastic.

Stayed one night on the way South on holiday. Convenient location and a short cab ride from town.

An adequate room (if a bit tired) but good value at 40% discount (Mercure is 40 this year). Will be a better discount in 10 years we hope. Restaurant is expensive - and the head waiter was "brusque" to say the least - but he is French and I guess therefore that lesser mortals must make allowances. The food though was very good - and the breakfast especially so.

The only major dissapointment was that, like so many hotels in Europe, the hotel has no air con (and it was a hot day). We roasted in our bed and had difficulty in sleeping. Best for a winter visit!
