On a recent trip to France, two friends and I drove five hours to the quaint and beautiful fishing village of Honfleur. It was a very rainy day but we were looking forward to experiencing the town where some say Impressionist art began! The first order of "business" was to enjoy a delicious seafood lunch. We would have much preferred to have chosen a restaurant outside and on the water but the heavy rain prevented us from doing so. We walked the beautiful and narrow streets for a few minutes and discovered what "appeared" to be a charming restaurant called Au Chalutier. We entered the restaurant and my first impression was that it was empty of diners! There was only one other couple eating lunch there. That should have been the first clue that this was a BAD choice! When we walked toward our table and sat down, a young man who was either a waiter or the owner came over and immediately chastised one of my friends for not closing the front door of the restaurant. He was nothing short of RUDE to her and had an unfriendly attitude that continued throughout the entire lunch that should have driven us right back out on the street! We had a window table and had a nice view of the harbor, the water and the boats, and even though the food was just good, not excellent, it was the continuous unfriendly and rude behavior on the part of our server that definitely impacted our enjoyment of our one meal in Honfleur. Our biggest mistake, as we discussed later, was the decision to remain in Au Chalutier and put up with such negative, rude, abusive and unfriendly behavior on the part of this server. It is possible that he was the owner. Unfortunately we never asked his name or position so can't pass this information on to the reader of this review. We would never recommend this place to anyone! The server should be ashamed of himself! He adds NOTHING to what is an idyllic destination for all travelers in France. Enjoy this beautiful town but avoid this restaurant! Find another restaurant in gorgeous Honfleur or go hungry! THUMBS DOWN!!!

Visited this 'restaurant' last week on an overnight stay in Honfleur. It looked ok and quite busy from the street entrance and also had quite a few diners on the harbour side. The set menu looked appertizing and reasonably priced so opted for the €14 menu. The waiter who looked as if he was totally out of his depth and I hate to say it a bit on the incompetent side. He did
say that it was his first day but that being the case I am puzzled as to why the proprietors put him in sole charge of the inside seating area of the restaurant... He clearly could not cope.. I opted for the mussels which had clearly not been washed prior to cooking and it was very much like eating sand soup.. !! My partners salmon was equally uninspiring too. For a harbour based restaurant in a town that prides itself on its seafood we were expecting something far better.
All in all not a great choice. I am not in the least surprised that it rates 94 out of 94 restaurants in Honfleur... I would not recommend it to you..

Was a nice meal. Nice ambiance. Wouldn't say it 5 star haut cuisine but well worth a visit.

Must be the worst restuarant overlooking the harbour. Do not eat here.
