“Appalling!”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 June 2013 via mobile

This "restaurant" should be struck off the Honfleur tourism list.
Like another reviewer has said, the service from a flippant and totally uncaring waiter....
with very inappropriate personal remarks was bad enough considering that our party included
Very young children....the meal was disgusting ... moulles et frit barely edible, Normandy 'speciality'
Was tinned rice pudding, evaporated milk and some other disturbing stuff...didn't touch it.
This particular meal priced at €14.00 If our party had not committed to the location we would have walked out.
DON'T GO TO THIS PLACE!

“Started well ...”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 18 April 2013

Some aspects of our meal were better than average: others were disappointing. Our starters were delicious - duo of salmon and tuna, and the bread was good and fresh. My main course of scallops with leek was mixed: the scallops were fine, but there was very little leek, and the accompanying diced vegetables (carrot, courgette, etc) were surely there to support the scallop shells and not meant to be eaten? for they were sadly tasteless and soggy. Pudding (three chocolate cakes) was pleasant enough, but lacked contrast. The carafe of house wine was disappointing and frankly only just acceptable. The cat pictures around the walls are delightful and provide much interest.

“Initially amusing welcome hid a shameful meal”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 September 2012

I have long enjoyed French cuisine in all its many shapes and forms. I guess I'm a real Francophile, and rarely been disappointed. But this place served up probably the worst meal I have ever encountered in France - including the honest Steak hache and frites served on a paper plate at a Motorway Aire. A simple request for Moules et Frites and a bottle of the recommended Rose resulted in grossly overcooked moules that disintegrated before your eyes, twice as many moule shells as there were moules, and bottle of watered-down rose. I should have been more alert when the bottle was dumped on the table ready-opened. We should have stopped earlier - lifting empty shell after empty shell, but stumbled on hoping for a rich juice at the bottom of the bowl. Nothing, not even the rich wine sauce ordered. Once we had twigged what was going on, we dismissed the waiters' earlier flippancy and paid and left. The waiter looked very sheepish but still hadn't the gall to ask if anything was wrong. Avoid. There are too many other good places in Honfleur. Price: 60 Euros!

“Good with kids”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 June 2012

We liked this restaurant as we had a 2 and 5 year old, it was quite late and service was quick and the restaurant is on a pedestrianised square they could play in while we watched. The kids menu is not cheap (10 euros) but luckily dessert came in a toy that saved the evening!
Lots of other kids there too. Food was lovely. Service nothing special but fine.

“Are there two of the same name?”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 April 2012

I can only think there are two restauarants of the same name - or else all these bad reviews are written by a rival restaurant! Over a two week visit in the summer we ate at Le Chat possibly 6 times because fom the first time we never had anytning but good food and service and a reason able bill. Not BTW because we are locals - or even French! The staff were helpful and friendly and we can't be the only ones to think so because it was always full to the extent that many late comers had to be turned away with a 'desole'. There are other slightly upmarket restaurants in Honfleur with better and bigger fruits de mer - but at twice the price. Le Chat is good French food at reasonable prices. And better yet 8 months later they remembered us and welcomed us like long lost friends. Don't be put off try it -if you can get in! But maybe you get what you give and if you are a snobby tourist you get treated like one!
