This is the most unusual church we've ever seen. It is basically meant to look like a ship turned upside down obviously because of the maritime history of the town. It really is worth seeing as it is quite unique.

Beautiful church awaits your pleasure and two thoughts went through my mind after I enjoyed the magnificent structure and the serenity of graceful presence. It reminded me of a sailing ship from my long ago sailing days north of Boston, and indeed it was the inversion of a ships hull built logically by local shipbuilders in the 1500's. Then I marveled at how this structure made entirely of oak and teak and has survived all these years. Check out the bell tower just across from the church. The cobblestone streets in this small square along with the church is like being brought to a time long ago.

Very interesting outside as well as inside. The roof inside looks like the inside of an upside down boat. Very warm church.

Sit at a pew and contemplate. Don't miss the upside down fishing boat hull on the ceiling. It is so unusual. Pure beauty.

Despite the many tourists that were looking round when we visited, this church is a haven of calm and tranquility. The workmanship that went into building a wooden church of this size really has to be seen to be appreciated, not to mention the beautiful carvings that were all done in the days when there were no mechanical aids. For lovers of stained glass windows, the ones over the altar are simply stunning. Well worth a visit.
