We had to go over to northern France unexpectedly at the end of last year. As my mum shelled out for emergency passports for most of us, and also generously agreed to pay for our accommodation and expenses during the trip, we wanted to keep the budget fairly tight. Although our brother's funeral was going to be in le Havre we found that it was quite a bit cheaper for us to stay in the Budget Ibis in Honfleur. There is a district of le Havre called Harfleur (near Rogerville), which could potentially cause some confusion, but pop over the Pont de Normandie on the A29 and Honfleur is just the other side of the river from le Havre.

The hotel was quite easy to find, being on the side of a dual carriageway either known as the D580 or the Rue des Vases, and is within easy walking distance of the harbour, the shops and the restaurants. We parked at the front of the hotel. It is a standard vanilla Ibis hotel, very predictable and straight-forward but with the big advantage of competitive room prices.

Rooms at the front of the hotel do have a certain amount of road noise, and we had to have the window open initially because the room was far too hot, but having lowered the thermostat setting it eventually cooled down enough for us to close the window. There was no bath but we were quite happy to use the shower. Not a great view, although you could just about see the Pont de Normandie bridge in the distance when it was clear, and hear the toots of the ships on the River Seine.

There was plenty to eat and drink for breakfast, which isn't always the case in France. Overall we enjoyed our stay in this hotel, although our family circumstances were less than ideal at the time, and we would certainly consider staying here again.

Room Tip: Some road noise at the front

Stayed here overnight on our way to Ypres, brilliant hotel although very basic it was extremely clean rooms and bathrooms, very quite had a very good nights sleep and the location couldn't be better only a 5 minute walk from all the harbour restaurants and shops. Excellent value would definitely stay here again.
