“More than just a lovely place to stay”
Reviewed 14 September 2013

My wife and I recently honeymooned throughout Europe, travelling to London, Paris, and Bruges, as well as several smaller cities in between. It was incredible -- all of it. And La Petit Folie was easily the highlight of our trip.

La Petit Folie is more than just a lovely place to stay. It has an incredible warmth and coziness. To experience that feeling on top of all the luxury and beauty was such a bonus...I only wish I could give ten stars instead of just five!

A million thanks to Penny, Thierry and Catherine.

We stayed for 2 nights at "La Petite Folie" in the beginning of August. We stayed in the Le Priscilla apartment (a separate small house near the main house), with our two teenage boys. It is located at the center of the old town, a superb location. The house has been beautifully renovated, with very high standard and lots of attention to details. The apartment was very comfortable. The beautiful garden is seen from all rooms with a big door from the master bedroom. We easily found free parking in the street just in front of the apartment for all our stay.
Breakfast which was brought to the apartment was made of local products and was just perfect !!!
We had a lovely welcome from Katherine and Penny is a wonderful friendly hostess.
We will definitely come back to stay if we happen to be in the area again.

The location of this boutique hotel is excellent. With it being so central there is no parking so one "unloads" then finds a parking . Free parking is some about 400m away, street parking "may be" available on the very narrow access road , do you risk damage to your vehicle ?
Breakfast is provided around a large table for up to 8 persons - this can be excellent for a large party or separate couples able to speak a common language but may be uncomfortable if you are "the outsider" - in which case they will serve you in the lounge area.
The guest rooms are large & the ensuite provisions excellent / tastefully done.

The hotel is not manned at all times & this may cause problems if service or assistance is required - you are warned prior to booking.
Being an existing property the staircase is the original (appears to be) that being a wide circular stairway over 3 floors. This stairway is steep with a fragile handrail to the centre & no handrail to the external wall - with a hand rail to the external wall (associated with the wider treads) it would be much easier & safer to accend and decend the stairs. Naturally there is no lift.

Guest bedrooms are to the 2nd & 3rd floors.

I was not aware of the installation of any smoke detectors / fire alarms / fire escapes or escape provisions This may be an issue for some.

Room Tip: Rooms to the rear have a nice view over gardens

We spent two truly delightful days with out hosts Penny and Thierry at their beautiful little B&B hotel. Our apartment was extremely comfortable and had everything we required for the weekend. The breakfasts were a selection of the best French products from the local market and there was always more than we could eat! Katherine, the Housekeeper, was very knowledgeable about the town of Honfleur, spoke excellent English and offered advice on suitable restaurants, places of interest and shopping. Honfleur is a fabulous town filled with lovely restaurants, galleries and boutique shops.

There is not much i can add to the wonderful and very accurate reviews that have been written down. We had the pleasure of staying at one of the loft apartments for only one night last weekend (if there is something to complain about/regret it is that we didnt stay for longer) and absolutely fell in love with the place! The apartment was beautifully decorated, simple and yet very elegant. We had everything we needed, beautiful views, open spaces, fully furnished kitchen, two bathrooms, impecable room, large living room with huge windows... They even left a delicious homemade apricot marmalade and apple juice in the fridge! Best part, they bring you a basket full of french pastries (croissants, baguette, pain aux raisins, brioche, compote) in the morning.... Penny, the charming owner of this amazing place, was a perfect host who chatted with us when we arrived and when we left, we promised to come back soon!
La Petite Folie is a little gem hidden away in the magnifique Honfleur, and as we promised, we will back back, and not just for one night. Thank you Penny.

We reserved two apartments for ourselves and our in-laws in early June. Apartment Rouge was absolutely charming with exposed beams and a stone fireplace surround, Apartment Anis, one floor up, wasn't quite as charming, though very nice. It was very spacious and had a very nice seating area around the functional kitchen.

The owner, Penny, was charming and the restaurant recommendations were excellent. We would definitely return.

There is little that I can add to the earlier very positive comments, except to say that I concur with all of them! The place is gorgeous, and rooms clean, pleasing (as pictures show), and surprisingly roomy. The owners have done a very good job on renovating the place, and keeping it in the pristine condition afterwards. This care is also extended to guests, who are welcomed by three friendly faces (Penny, Thierry and Catherine) that appear to be always eager to assist and provide useful tips concerning restaurants, places to visit, etc. We tested some of those, and we were happy that we did. And yes, the breakfast is indeed very good too! So in short, you won't regret at staying in this place. We hope to return to it in someday as this time we didn't have enough time to properly enjoy the garden and tea room.
