Best Western Hotel Litteraire Gustave Flaubert
Ranked #7 of 52 Hotels in Rouen
Reviewed 2 June 2009

The best i can say about this hotel is its location in the heart of Rouen; we book a Executive room and we find a very small room.
A mediocre hotel for its price with a difficult acces parking.

My son and I stayed there in May 08. Our GPS took us to the hotel, otherwise might have been a little difficult to find in rush hour traffic. We enjoyed our stay, the room was nice and clean, breakfast at the restaurant was good, the staff was very nice and English speaking. Parking was in the courtyard behind the hotel, it wasn't free but there was no other way around it. We would like to come back some day when we have more time to visit.

The location of this hotel is superb, however, we got a cheap deal on the internet and booked a standard room, I have never seen a room so small in my life and our outlook was..... the fire escape ladder and a brick wall!! The lift only worked on days that ended in a Y, and I have to say that the lift for the car down to the underground carpark was great, we have a large 4x4 and with the mirrors turned in, there was about a 2mm gap either side.... it was great fun though but my husband made me drive in and out of the lift as he refused to do it!! If we did return to this hotel I would ensure that we got a much better room as I cannot fault the location.

The rooms were clean and tidy - although there were no shelves/draws. The rooms were small, but its not the type of hotel where you would go to spend a lot of time - its quite basic. There is no restaurant and the bar is quite small (and expensive - but in line with the rest of the area).
The staff were really helpful and friendly and we got what we expected from a Eureopan 3 star hotel.
We would definietely go back to this hotel if we were to visit the area again!

We have stayed at this Best Western (it's a Tulip Inn now) for 3 nights just a couple of days ago and found it completely overprized. We had 2 rooms and both were crammed and tiny and needed some refreshing. On our arrival we found out they didn't have our reservation - made on-line with a reservation number! So I suppose we got the rooms that were left!
Even for Europe their parking is a nightmare - you don't want to go there with a large car. The staff is european standart, moderatly helpful. The breakfast is not bad but you can get a better one for 10€/person. All in all for 3 nights + 5 breakfasts + parking I paid some 430€. That's a lot of money even for this location!!

Superb location but lacking in some areas - toiletries not replaced and on one occasion, there was very little on the breakfast buffet - I would not have been pleased if I had to pay extra for breakfast! Also I have never before stayed in a hotel with absolutely no drawers or shelves! One lamp had no light bulb which was not replaced even though reception was informed and the curtain was hanging off at one end. The room & bathroom however were clean and comfortable.

Hotel du Vieux Marche is in a great location, right in the middle of the town. Very disappointed in the service and general standard. Lift worked occasionally (we were on 3rd floor and have mobility problems). The bar seemed to permanently full of hotel staff drinking, smoking and watching TV. The breakfast buffet promised boiled eggs and toast, however the egg boiler was broken as was the toaster. Reporting this to the staff didnt help as they didnt seem to care. All in all a very disappointing stay.
We wont consider going back.
